Facebook app update 'Permissions'
« on: December 22, 2013, 12:42:40 PM »
I have just received a notice about an update for the Facebook App for android.

When someone writes an app for Android they have to request certain permissions from the phone (or tablet) owner. The owner (you) has the last say as to whether you accept these permissions, for obvious security reasons.

Interestingly, the new fb app asks for 'new' permissions and some of these are:

Read your text messages (SMS or MMS).

Change your audio settings
Record audio, take pictures and videos

Hardware controls:
Add or modify calendar events and send email to guests without owners knowledge. read calendar events plus confidential information, read your won contact card.
Modify your contacts, read call log, read your contacts, write call log.

Some of these requests might be ok.. like record audio, take pictures and videos if it is needed when YOU are the one wanting to do that, but some of the others need careful consideration.
