The trial is still progressing and has identified a few pro's and cons....

Fraudulent member security is tighter on FB so this is a real pro., like wise posting pics without third party hosting and of course the mobile application that suits many members lifestyles...this is its biggest bonus to the masses we belive.

But then on a forum you are known by a forum user name that you create for yourself so have this anonymity that many people desire. You can create a Facebook name for yourself if you are starting a new profile as a new FB user.  Editing posts on the FB Group by moderators is not an option, they either have to leave as it is or hide the entire post so it is not accessible.....so no more little mods for bad language or spelling mistakes etc. We will ask members as always to observe posting rules in relation to appropriate content etc.

Keep you posted  :thumbsup

I use Facebook a lot.  It's very good way to keep in touch and share information (especially pics) with family and friends who live a long distance away, interstate and overseas.   Security is only as good as individual member's settings.  Gee, I hope I've got mine tight.  You guys and gals will let me know otherwise, I hope?

The trial is still progressing and has identified a few pro's and cons .... wise posting pics without third party hosting and of course the mobile application that suits many members lifestyles ... this is its biggest bonus to the masses we believe ....

Both of these functions are very easy to do on Facebook, but there is a downside to posting pics.  This is, they(and any of the narration and comments provided) are hard to find after a more posts have been made.

If there was the same the level of activity on the FB page (as the Forum), it would only take a day or two and many interesting posts would be not be viewed by many members or lost (or very, very difficult to find) altogether.   The upside to this though is that many of the uninteresting posts would or could never be seen.
Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

The interesting and technical type posts will still very much have their home on the forum....we believe its more the short term social aspect of the forum that will migrate to Facebook Group page.

Events like RTE's will be posted under events so those threads can be easily accessed and monitored for attendees etc.....

If i didnt mention previously if your a non FB user and have no interest in the general FB community with very little effort once you register a name you can have your browser open the OzSToc Group page only in Facebook and not see all the other FB "stuff"......just like you can with the forum now.

I had at a look at our page last night with maybe the intention of making a post about our recent RTE but there's nowhere that I could see to write anything. There was a visitor's post/comment section in the past but that seems to have been removed.

Thanks Alan,

We have removed the ability to post to the PAGE in readiness for posting to the GROUP.....

This will go live very soon and we will convert the Ozstoc FB GROUP from secret to closed so you may all "Request to Join" and away we go  :runyay

I just managed to post a comment / question to this FB page https://www.facebook.com/OzSTOC/.  Is there another OzSTOC FB page?

It's the same one... this "group" (https://www.facebook.com/pg/OzSTOC/groups/?ref=page_internal) is within this "Page" (https://www.facebook.com/OzSTOC/) The page is like the lobby, the group is like the convention room.

The page you linked people were not able to converse, now that the "group" was added to it, People can now converse, add pictures, maps, ride reports etc.

Basically, just join the group and you'll be fine

Two FB pages (I seem to recall that was mentioned elsewhere).

So who manages this one?  https://www.facebook.com/OzSTOC/

The OzSTOC FB Group is a closed group....so to join you must answer a few questions including residing in Aust/NZ and once past these filters be  accepted by an Admin/Moderator.

Phew.... I got past the questions  :thumb

Afraid I am with Biggles. Face book really doesn't do anything for me. I just received an email saying "Dougie James" has just added me to the OzSIOC FB grop, thank Dougie however you are but no thanks. Fairly sure on Monday I had a friend suggest that if I don't follow her facebook page then too bad I wouldn't know what she was doing, strike one for friendship???  When going to the OzSTOC FB group I see details about the Rally Tee Shirt which I can't find on the Forum  :'(. Hope that is just a delay at this stage and not a sign of things to come.
Must go now have to press the link on the email I received about the OzSTOC FB group that says "Leave the group"

Here is the basic way to use the OzSTOC Facebook group for those who don't want to use all the annoyances of the rest of FB.  :thumbsup

Step 1: Set this link as a favorite on your desktop or taskbar on your pc, (you can also set it as a button on your smart phone) https://www.facebook.com/groups/ozstocgroup/

Step 2: Using the link and logging in, it will take you straight to the group, and you don't have to think about the rest of it (it is like the forum, there is a huge part of it we don't use, we use the part we want to)

Step 3: Use the group, you can simply post up a thread or comment the same as the forum, you can share a link from the forum to the group as well, they work in kind pretty well.

Step 4: if you are struggling, and want some tips and help, or help to simply sign up to Facebook, Streak is happy to help you 0488 385 858, or send him a pm.

Step 5: Don't be daunted by it, 3/5 people in the world now have a FB account, the security settings are there so your account can be locked down as tight as you would like it, once again Streak can help you do that.

Side note: 3 mediums of OzSTOC, OzSTOC has the FORUM first and foremost, it has a Facebook PAGE (which we have had for years) that acts like the front page of a newspaper, where announcements get put, works similar to the front page of website, the Facebook GROUP acts like the forum, but is a simpler quicker more socially interactive way to use it, it is not the best place to post a technical work though of something you built, bought or did.

FACT we have become quieter, and less contributions on the forum, many of these wonderful people of OzSTOC are still here, but they post about what they are doing on social media, as it is simple, no need for 3rd party image hosting, so rather than close our minds and lose those good people this is away to keep them involved and part of this wonderful group of people, you choose which one you use or both, we are working for the longevity of OzSTOC, all we ask is everyone to have an open mind and understand this is about being an inclusive group and catering to the needs of the many.

We are giving you choices....how and if, you use them is up to you  ;-*

I primarily use the Forum and check in a few times a day and knowing that some don't frequent the forum I'll post a link on the Facebook page; mainly RTEs and anything else that might be of interest.
