Check it out - it's been on my radar for a while now - but the floods kept the road closed for months - I believe she's fully operational again.....
She is 50kms long and called "The Risk" :eek
Great roads in and out of there as well.

That looks like fun, better wait till any sand/sludge is cleaned of tho, or it may be too exciting.

:hatwave
Diesel,
This is a brilliant road - in fair weather - even in a tin top - up/down/twist around/up down and repeat - commence just before Rathdowney and finish at Kyogle -through the Border Ranges National Park - across the border and sweep through Kyogle to Lismore across to the Pacific Hwy and back up the coast - then ???????????? or or or ??? do it in reverse - equaly as good - refuel man & machine in Kyogle for a break

Forget to mention - about half way - "The Border Loop Spiral" - The NSW answer to the ascent & descent of the rugged North Coast Mountain Range - a Spiral.
As a passenger in the NSW Country Link XPT - if you are to the fore or to the aft - you can see the front or rear of the train - it loops itself three times and if timed right - a freight train - down bound or up bound may be witnessed - good point for a break & short walk to the viewing platform.
Just a thought for a break.

maybe i am up to it
or the TinPony is, i hope
possably avail early May if that suits.
-
The greatest hazards on the Lions Road are the cow droppings and "grids" or "cattle ramps" (whatever you like to call them). You can skid on both.
The roller-coaster hills are great fun and the NSW downhill side has some great twisties.
-
Thanks for pointing that road out fellas, have got it booked it for the next time I ride up to gold coast to visit my daughter. :thumb :bl11

Had planned to come north around the first or second weekend of May, so if possible would like to join you on that ride. :bl11
-
Well, if Harieg can make the early May date - we'll go for that, if not, I might have to ride it again in Mid May (gosh darn it!) :p
Keep me posted Steveo, coz there is a great little Pub that serves a great meal 30 clicks past the Qld end when we're done!

well Diesel, do we have enough starters
Yes Harie - 1 is enough for a great ride - we're doin' it! :thumb
Congrats by the way on your new Anniversary Edition ST - make sure you put some pics of her up in the "about us" post and and write a little blurb about you and the bike. :thumbsup
STeveo - talk to me as the date gets closer to the details of exactly where we can meet up etc...
Cheers, Diesel
-
I'll be in that one. We often use the Lyons Rd for access to National Park Trail Rides, so it will be interesting to do it on the ST. I'm in Cairns from the 2nd to the 9th, and I agree that Mother's Day comes with its own risk, so if we can work around those dates I'd appreciate it.

BS! I was on it Saturday 21st April and it was in as good a shape as I've ever seen it.
Not safe for wooses! :p
All its usual hazards are in great shape- cow pats on unfenced roads, cattle ramps on corners, narrow bridges, tight corners, they're all there.
I've still got Saturday 12th in my diary- don't let me down on this, Diesel!!! :thumbs

No worries mate - 12th it is - but I'm taking YOUR word for it. :well

Hi There,
What's the plan, meeting place, time, lunch stop? etc.
-
That suits me fine, so long as the world keeps turning and the sun keeps rising will be there. :bl11
Well Steveo - has the world stopped turning for you, or are you still a starter?
Hope you're feeling better champ.
Hi There,
What's the plan, meeting place, time, lunch stop? etc.
Hi Tony - late lunch is at the Dugandan Hotel just outside Boonah - you will ALL enjoy this one I'm sure.
Times/places to meet will be discussed this week right here - so stay tuned.....
I'm looking for a nice coffee joint to serve as the meeting point at 9.00am in Beaudesert (with good parking close by) - any suggestions Villains?
Cheers, Diesel

I can't help with a coffee shop at Beaudesert- maybe someone else knows one there.
If you're starting from Beauy, and ending at Dugandan, I deduce you're going towards Rathdowney, down the Innisplain Road to miss Rathdowney and link onto the Lions Road, then riding the road south to a turn around (at The Risk?) then back over the top to Rathdowney, Maroon and Dunganden.
About 360 km for me, which is a reasonable outing with coffee and lunch stops.
Another option is to turn right at the Summerland Way and go up to pick up the Mt Lindsey Hwy east of Woodenbong, then go back down through Palen Creek to Dugandan. It's 30 km further, but saves doing the same road twice, an covers some new territory (although I know you have an affection for camping in the streets of Woodenbong). :grin
-
WELL
is it settled yet
time to start
where to start, 1st stop, coffee stop, wee stop etc.
have a root yet
maybe a map ?
-
OK - here is the start point (A) on map - be there 9.00am for a relaxed coffee and ready for a 9.30-9.45am ride out. This is a shopping centre car park with a coffee shop just inside.
Look for a shiny gold ST1100 and a distinguished gentleman with a Cheshire cat grin aboard it to know you have reached your destination. :grin
Arrive Dugandan Hotel for lunch noon-12.30pm.

That looks like a glorious ride Diesel you lucky buggers.
I went 6 ks down the rd to the Doc's this mornin and the bending of the knee was not good and I had taken pain killers 2 hrs before the trip.
So now I am going to go sit in a corner and sulk. :'( :'( :'( :|||| :||||

Well my world is still turning but at very slow and painfull pace. Doctors and xray again today, and although I have dodged surgery the knitting of bones has not progressed much in the last 3 weeks. Doctor said NO RIDING for another month (just as well I didn't tell him I had a little ride around town on my 500 last Friday, must admit it did hurt a bit) so I will not be heading North for your next RTE. Feels like I am stuck at home with one foot nailed to the floor. Still don't have the bits to put the ST back together yet. Think I might join Tipsy and go and sulk in the corner for a while. :(

So it's the Woolworths carpark opposite the Big Pumpkin servo.
Looks like a decent plan Diesel. Now you just have to organise the weather and we're in for a treat!
-
Thanks harie, top and middle fairings for right side 1994 1100. Colour is lapis blue metalic (dark blue). Have advertised on here before and chased wreckers with no luck. Have bought some new small bits, but the fairings are a problem as all wrecked ones seem to have been down on the right side. Still cannot ride yet so not in a hurry.

I left the above pertinent info in as a reminder.
See this link.....
http://g.co/maps/3yafr (http://g.co/maps/3yafr)
I will be riding out of Caboolture BP Service Centre SOUTH BOUND at 0745hrs to be at the meeting point ride out time in Beaudesert, comfortably by 0915.
There will be a toll or two on this route. I will be riding at the speed limit - so work out what time I'll be passing your proposed entry point by dragging (B) to your entry location. Google will calculate (on the left hand side of the screen) how long it will take me to be there. Allow to be a few minutes early in case I see a FJR1300 that needs to be taught a sound lesson! :whistle
-
The Lions Road is a great ride! Have done it several times over the years and have seen it in various states of repair (but generally good). Rathdowney makes a good meeting place before heading off. The Border Loop railway lookout is worth a look, particularly if you can time it with the XPT coming through. Another "interesting" place to stop for lunch is Nimbin, before heading east to the coast and then home to Brisbane up the freeway.
I'll keep an eye open for the ride date. I would like to join you. (will be heading out to Lightning Ridge with FarRiders 25-27 May - probably see some OzSTOC's there)
Cheers, Dave

Hey Harie. It won't take Diesel 15 minutes to get from the BP servo to the bridge so make sure you're early. We don't want a Tipsy moment, waiting, waiting, waiting, but alas. We'd passed before he got there. Howdy Tipsy.
Diesel. I'll wait on the D'Bay merge so just truck on by and I'll file in behind. I'll be on the merge at 7.45 so see you then.

This is a great trip plan :thumbs I've ridden these roads a few times. I would add in a short divert through Mt Barney as the road winds through some really spectacular country. I'll be there and Marissa is a definate maybe :o

I saw that turnoff to Mt Barney and checked it on Google maps to see if it was a dead-end. Then the next question was whether it was sealed, so that answers my last question.
-
Yes its a sealed road, Bill. It's narrow and windy and requires caution, but the scenery makes up for it.
-
WOW WOW WOW

Here are the photo's from todays ride.
Marissa had an off today and hurt her knees. Thanks to everyone who stopped and helped to get her patched up and the bike going again. She was a real trooper getting back on the bike and riding to the hotel for lunch. Home safe and sound now and rested a badly bruised and swollen knee. marissa wanted to thank everyone for your support and staying behind her to make sure all was good.
