Title: Newbie without a bike - yet.
Post by: welsh_youngblood on November 07, 2015, 03:06:35 AM
Hello everyone. I've set my heart on a ST1100, I'm going to look at one, possibly two tomorrow. I've previously mainly rode cruisers, my last being a Suzuki M109r. As much as I loved that bike I wouldn't buy another.
An ST1100 shall be my next steed, once a suitable one is found.

I was always told to buy as new as possible, but in this case I think condition and service history will be just as important.

I hope to see some of you guys out on the road as time goes by.

Regards
Jason.

Welcome to the forum Welsh_youngblood. The ST1100 is a great motorcycle (some would say awesome), good choice.  They are getting a bit old now, having been superceded by the ST1300 in 2002 ( I think).  Police models were still being registered for a couple more years.  Hope you find a nice one,
Phil

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys. I'm based in Melbourne, originally from Wales.
I have my eye on a mechanically sound, cosmetically challenged ST1100. For the right price it could be ideal to become my restoration hobbie.
Watch this space :)

I saw the blue 1100A a few weeks ago......If I had the cash I would have bought it. Would be like having mine all nearly new again.

No, unlike the 1300 the 1100 doesn't reset at 200,000 km. Motorcycle ADRs for the odometer only require being able to show up to 199,999 km which most bikes at the time wouldn't be able to do.

welcome Welshie,

I too joined this club before I had a STeed.

After a few months of waiting and wading through the offers I found one through this club.

Don't be too rash to buy and get some advice from the members here..... you will find we are only to willing to lend a helping hand.

Lots of ST11s around that have surprisingly low kays for their age.  Provided they have been garaged they seem to age gracefully.  A few "cosmetically challenged" ones pop up but most of us think they're a bit too challenging to restore.  We'd rather ride them.
Keep us posted with your progress.

Hi Welshy
I got my ST1100 from GumTree down near Avoca beach NSW, I live at Gympie QLD did it all over the net, took a risk I know had to trust my gut instinct and take a risk, I got it cheap and need to do a few things to it to get it regoed but its a nice ride for it age.
Any way just look around and one will pop up.

Hi Jason and welcome aboard,

I too joined here before owning an ST1100 and was looking at the one on Bikesales with 23000k's a few months ago. At the time I arranged a pre-puchase mechanical inspection which I might be able to locate if you're interested - PM me.  Price was higher then and I decided it wasn't for me with a few fixes required, but if you're mechanically inclined might be worthwhile.

I also took the 145k '99 model for a short test ride...fits the description you're after, but I reckon is overpriced for its k's and condition.

this one http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moolap/motorcycles/honda-st1100/1094772849 (http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moolap/motorcycles/honda-st1100/1094772849)
is currently in sale in Geelong on gumtree, haven't seen it around but looks well priced and tidy in photos.
