Managed to upset a guy on a CBR1000R on the way home tonight. He tried very had to lose me and my ST11 in traffic but he found out 1. That the ST is not as wide as it looks and can fit though most of the same gaps and 2. in traffic, its less about 175bhp vs 100bhp, and more about 115Nm at 8500rpm vs 111Nm at 6000 rpm so in real world terms, he'd have to do insane things to leave me very far behind in traffic, while I just had fun without being stupid. He was impressed. He told me so at the lights :)

A similar thing happened in the States apparently.
Boy Racer came to a stop along side an ST rider at the lights. On the change, BR took off, and STr thought what the heck and fed the bike some gas. After a couple of miles, BR pulled over, so STr stopped as well.
BR " Man that big ole bike can go some"
STr "Yup"
BR "Aint that the bike the cops ride???"
STr "Yup"
BR "Well Man, there aint no way I'm gonna try run from a Cop on those things :like "
and they parted ways.

I regularly leave other bikes at the traffic lights.
But often it's as much about astonishingly fast reactions as horsepower. :whistle :grin

Same here .... fast reaction, consistent throttle control and knowing and anticipating the lights correctly.
in Townsville most of the lights turn green 3 seconds after the opposing lights have turned red.
Watch other lights till they go orange, check traffic is stopping wait for light to go red .... count 3...., 2....., 1.....look left and right and GGGGGOoooooooooo.
Leaves everyone behind.

Yep, I do exactly the same process whether in car or on bike. Even my little Mitsi Colt leaves most behind at the lights.

I wish there were a lot more cage drivers like you. Most sit there mulling over the correct interpretation of the green light. Or they're slow looking up from their texting. Or they're in a fourby which we all know is as challenging as a B-Double to get rolling and up through all those gears.
-
Most seem to forget that they put the car/bike into N (not going gear) and jammed the park brake on.
-
Then there's those who sit and wait for a written invitation to enter roundabouts......

In triplicate, signed by the Govenor General, with the Queens Royal Seal, and with 5 grid squares clear of any other traffic.

.. and then there the ones.... as I witnessed this morning, who brake late for a red light, then reverse back off the pedestrian crossing.
Then she proceeded to natter away on her phone. When the light changed to green, she was still in back-up mode, and reversed into the car in front of me.
Very minor damage to the two cars, but one very irate driver, who I thought was going to punch the woman. Still had her phone in her hand...

I followed one of the proverbial "little ol' ladies" a few months back. Not to bad except for using the RH side of the road to do a LH turn. I then followed her down to the main road where her indication was for RH turn and the car was as far to left (two lanes wide but no lane markings) as possible; she did a LH turn instead.
