At Repco NSW (and I'm told, other states as well) these tyre pressure monitors r on sale 4 $20 (was $69).

They r battery powered and once installed they show a red light when pressure is low, (I think it's 2 or 3 psi below the initial setting). Pressure can only b set once. This is done by very carefully setting the pressure for each tyre. When the monitor is screwed on 4 the 1st time the pressure is set at that amount. If pressure decreases below the set amount a red light shines.
Since the light only shines when pressure is low, the battery should last a long time.
What I don't know is what happens when the battery is low - does it indicate somehow. Don't know yet as I'm picking mine up 2moro and will check the web after that. In practical terms u should notice a flattening tyre and if the monitor is not red u know it's time 4 a replacement.
The good thing is u get 4 so they should last quite a while.

$100 is better than $350 though.

Thanks for the heads up ST.George, I'll have to check it out :thumbsup

Can't see myself rolling down the road leaning out to catch a glimpse of a glowing tyre valve to monitor the pressure.
Still, good for a quick check during refuelling, coffee breaks, etc.

Well, Bill, personally, on a dark, dark night, under the omniverse of limitless astral configurations, if I leant out a bit and saw a glowing red, orbiting satellite of impending danger warning, warning, warning - I would get kinda "xcited" 2 get 2 the next servo 2 rectify the problemo while being the capitano of starship "Red Flag" xplorer of the cyclic universe... Just sayin'...

I am sure a system mirrors would overcome that problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got a pair of this brand of mechanical tyre pressure monitors that I am happy to give away to the first one to claim them. Mine are designed to monitor 42psi. A 10% pressure reduction shows an orange band, and 15-20% redction in pressure shows a red band.

Both my Volkswagens the Eos and the Golf Alltrack use the Traction control system to monitor the tye pressures.
It checks the rotation speed of each wheel in a straight line and then calculates if one has gone flat. After a true change or after pumping up the tyres it has to be reset.
