Hi All,

Purchased a 1999 ST, Think its an ex police but how can you tell? (Has the controls on the right handle bar and the light brackets but is there anything else?) Live in Wyoming on the Central Coast of NSW. Bought the ST after my VT750 was written off ( in the best way, if there is one. parked in carpark and no one hurt.) Looked for something with shaft drive and found the ST. Loving it except for parking but getting used to it slowly. Enjoying reading the post and looking forward to some rides.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi Ed.  welcome to the group.  You will be able to find out a lot of information from your fellow riders about your new toy and what makes it tick.  Ex police models seem to be highly regarded. Cheer

Hi Ed and welcome from sunny Vic, this place is a minefield of information and a bit gentle banter to boot, please enjoy. Ah by the way your speedo should be in 2 k increments if its ex pol. Norm is in 5. Great bike.................................................. :wht11

Hi Ed, welcome aboard.

Having a close look at your bike you have a 1999 ST1100A (A=ABS). I wasn't sure at first two items gave it away. The headlight adjustment knob (left of speed) and on the front mudguard I could just make the hint of silver which is the ABS-TCS-CBS sticker near the LH brake calliper.

Other tell tale signs you can confirm are the TCS (amber) ABS (red) warning lights above the gauges, triple pot callipers all round and the indicator warning lights are located on the lower half of the gauge cluster. The OEM switches on the left hand filler panel should read TCS on/off and ABS/TCS warning on/off.

ABS - anti-lock brakes
TCS - traction control system
CBS - combined brake system.

The police switch and light mount brackets have been fitted by a previous owner.

Hi Ed, Welcome aboard.  I have a police model which is an ST1100P.  The police model has an ammeter to the left of the speedo where yours has the headlight adjuster.  I found my headlight adjuster tucked inside the fairing.  The police model has extra switches on the right handlebar, below the kill switch.  These are labeled 1,2,3,4,5,7 and 8.  Number 6 is next to the hazard switch on the left side of the fairing.  They are disconnected.
Hope you enjoy the forum and can join us at an RTE (ride to eat)

Welcome to the forum Ed.  :thumb

Do you know the paint code for your bike, removed seat and if you find a sticker with NH138 (Shasta White, Police colour) on the frame.

This is just one indication, there are several.

If your free on Sunday 21st of Feb, we are having breakfast at "The Mill" see post:- http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=10093.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=10093.0)

Looks like a civilian model - from what I understand the police didn't use the ABS and your is an ABS model. The shape of the front mudguard is the main/obvious clue.
