Title: Insurance
Post by: Shiney on March 17, 2012, 02:15:48 PM
I just received my insurance renewal (from QBE) for the ST1300 and was surprised by the difference in price from the ST1100 I had previously had insured with them.

Last year it was $200 for the 1100  :thumb
This year for the 1300 they want $677 :eek

No bad things (accidents ect) to report to them, rating 1, and over 10 years licensed  :grin

So I thought stuff that! :cuss and had a look around :CB-- the best price I could find was $524.29 from “Insure My Ride” with up to $2000 gear cover and up to $2000 in modifications covered :thumb

Anyhoo I was just wondering :think1 what insurance company the rest of you use?
And if anyone has managed to find an awesome deal they would like to share with the rest of us?
Or what company/s to stay away from :well :well :well

Cheers

Shiney,

My '98 St1100 for 2010 and 2011 Insured with QBE
2011 Insurance was $256.00 - Market Value & Riding Gear
2012 Insurance now $336.00 - same cover - not happy!!!

Went on line - Insure my Ride - Agreed Value $7800.00 (their figure - not mine) and extra as you were quoted.
Went to QBE - phone - told them I was aware of their "We'll beat any Price" - e-mail quotes to them - came back to me within 30 minutes with Renewed Renewal - Agreed Value $7800.00 (they wouldn't previously) and $4000.00 Riding gear cover all for $300.00 ($36.00 less)-  also  -  advise them you are an active member of a recognised motorcycle club (they have a list) tell them Ulysses if OZSTOC not listed.

Mate on phone Monday AM - 1st thing - and advise your other quotes - they are quite helpful.

Bob

I just took TP Property cover out, with AAMI - also covers the bike for theft.  With no insurance history in Oz, comprehensive cover was more than I was willing to pay.  Was about $150 I think for the cover I got.

Thanks Bob :hatwave
I’ll have to give QBE a call on Monday and see what deal they will do :think1

And thanks Des, that’s a good option for anyone that is after third party insurance :thumb

Insuremyride offer TP cover and Theft cover under 2 separate policies, so you can buy one or the other or both - but AAMI was cheaper for me.

I just paid $538 to Honda Riders for my 1300 (underwritten by Swann).
I think it's full cover for everything, including the mods.
Probably a good idea if I go and read what I'm covered for  :fp

Try Shannons, 2008 ST1300 Agreed value $15,200 full cover including riding gear,
$355.36 P.A.  Max no claim. Good price because another bike and car insured with them.

I tried them six years ago. They wouldn't insure me (rating 1) as I rode all the time. Not the only insurer I found out.
Apparrently I was a greater risk than someone who only rode weekends or in the warmer months. I would have thought  riding all the time and maintaining/improving your skills would have been a less risk.

So I went to Swan with rating 1 for around $35 a month.

I had the same problem with Shannons :'(
So I checked out Swan (I could only find "Honda riders" in NZ) they came in at $559.53 :(

Thanks for all the info so far guys, I hope it ends up helping us all :thumb

  winston 66

 I am currently with Shannons,
2002 Honda St1300 ,agreed value $8000  policy cost $258.02 Pa.
1996 YamahaXVZ1300 ,Agreed Value $5800.)) policy cost $210 .21 Pa.
Both inclusive of GST. And paid monthly by direct debit without incurring any extra costs.
 Both these policys are ,
Private use,
 Limited use,
 Basic excess $500.00,
 Garaged,
 Have various accessories listed,
Qualify for the maximum no claim bonus of 65%
covered for accidental damage or theft
riding apparel cover for motorcycle and pilion passenger,
windscreen cover i understand that it is presently at one per vehicle per year , with no penalty of excess or loss of no claim bonus.
accidential damage to  your trailer when it is being towed by your motor vehicle or motorcycle
There are quite a few other additional benefits but you would need to refer to the product disclosure statment and or discuss your particular requirements  or situation with them,
Also it helps if your usage is stated as limited use,
Ie, in my case this is so as I have two bikes and I can only ride one at a time and I do not use one bike daily as a commute to work.
I find Shannons good as I also have the car, and house and contents with them and that attracts a further 10% multi policy discount,
They also seem to have quite a few other benefits when I read their policy disclosure Ie. An Enthusists cover for automotive memorabilia and collectables,$10.000.00 this covers unregeristed vehicles , Ie a restoration project, etc,
and automotive spare parts and tools etc, there are some conditions pertaining to this you will have to examine their policy statment in order to understand their conditions.
For me  when I compared several other companies Shannons got my tick tor the most acceptable set of benefits for my money.
Their household , and contents policy also seemed to have a number of benefits that some of the other companies were a little light on also.
I hope that this helps and or gives some added information,

Cheers , winston66, Northampton

Wow :eek that’s an awesome amount of info Winston thanks mate :thumbs they sound very good but since I commute on the ST its just not for me :'(
That being said if people were going for a limited use insurance they do sound good (love the free windscreen) :runyay

Kev, thanks for the heads up on real insurance :) I checked them out :CB-- it transferred me to “Famous Insurance” but unfortunately I can’t get a quote from them as I’m under 40 years old :( that also means I can't comment on what their deals are like :fp Hopefully they will be able to do some good quotes for others :thumb

Shannons for me........................limited use....for agreed value of $16,300...$322........direct debit $26.86 monthly (no extra cost)
I have nothing else insured with them..............2 cars + caravan with QBE (cheaper than Shannons)......house & contents with RACT.
Shannons will only cover house if connected to mains water supply, which we're not!

I haven't had an insurance claim of any description in the last 40 years (touch wood). :grin

Just got my Swann renewal on my 2009 ST1300, Rate 1, nil claims:  $753!!   :eek
That's up from $611 last year and $590 the year before.

Insuremyride online quote: $368.48 with $1000 gear cover.
Any bad experiences with them, anyone??

Any bad experiences with any insurer not already mentioned in this thread?

Someone at Blackheath said they got a write-off payout in a week.  Can't remember who or what.  Was it QBE or GIO? Or?

I'll call Shannons for a quote tomorrow.

I just read your post Biggles and realised I hadn’t posted my update :fp

I ended up going with QBE because they have rating 1 for life :thumb Insure My Ride didn’t :(

QBE agreed to price beat “Insure My Ride” (who were the cheapest I could find) if I went for an annual payment :runyay

Unfortunately I needed to go for monthly payments this year and they weren’t able to match the price, but they came very close (it was about $40 more over the year) I was :think1 the extra cost was worth it for the peace of mind.

So in conclusion I would recommend getting a quote from I.M.R. and taking that to QBE.

Hope this helps

Has anyone heard of any dramas claiming from QBE (or any other insurer for that matter)?

I tried Shannons, but will only insure bikes over $10,000 if they are garaged, and mine is only in a carport because we don't have a garage.  We live in a residential Complex that is pretty safe, but them's the rules.

Hi Biggles :hatwave

I don’t know of any dramas with clams through QBE or Insure My Ride although I haven’t had to make any with them >:()

I did a lot of research on both of these companies on the net when I was looking for insurance :CB-- and found many good reviews/experiences :thumb
I have spoken too a couple of guys in my travels that have made clams through both companies. Thay said it was good results each time :grin

Hope this helps

Yep, that's all very helpful, thankyou.  Just didn't want to jump ship to save a few hundred only to find I wasn't really covered if it ever came to the crunch.

I have Shannons insurance, 010 1300 agreed value and a screen every year and will not up set my rating 1. It cost me $520.00. Tried QBE who I had my Blackbird with for years, they wanted $900.00.

It all just shows how ad hoc the whole premium thing is!! I got a quote from IMR for $17500, $400 excess for $394.48 (online quote).  When I asked QBE for a quote on the phone, she came back with $728.  She asked me what I thought of that and I said it was only $25 better than Swann whom I was leaving for bumping my premium up $142 in one hit.  I told her IMR's quote and she said to get it in writing.  I did and she miraculously could suddenly insure the bike for $390!  No-brainer, I'm with QBE.  Next year it will be fascinating to see if they want to take a chunk out of me or will go for a modest increase (which I would expect).

Thanks for your input Shiney- I'd advise others to follow our well-worn path, until someone finds QBE won't pay out if it becomes necessary.

I'm with Swann. When it came up for renewal I asked Shannons. Had to ride only 2 to 3 days a week max.
Phoned Swann back, they dropped the premium by a good amount.
Spend the time and make a phone call.

All too often we sit back and take it. Phone and make them earn your business.

It sounds like Shannons like to keep their risks tightly limited.  As I said above, wouldn't cover mine in a carport.

I'd never come across this idea that Malcolm mentions- expecting an insurer to lower their premiums just because I either ask them to, or tell them others are cheaper.  Any previous experience I've had similar to that the trader has said, "Well, go with them then!"

I was really amazed with Swann. It came out of the blue that's for sure.
In the end i saved some money.
The worrying thing is that you hear good and bad reports about all insurers.

This makes interesting reading

Suncorp is the parent company of insurance company GIO. GIO is mainly used as a general insurance company representing Suncorp outside Queensland, offering similar products to the Suncorp branded insurance product in Queensland.

Suncorp also owns the AAMI, Apia, Just Car Insurance, Shannons, InsureMyRide, Vero, Terri Scheer, Bingle, CIL, Asteron and Tyndall insurance brands in Australia, and Vero, Asteron, Guardian Trust, Tyndall, Vero Marine, Vero Liability, AA Insurance, SIS, CMV/AXIOM, Mariner, Comprehensive Travel Insurance and Autosure brands in New Zealand. These assets were acquired with the Promina Group in 2007.

pault was impressed by GIO but when I rang them they said they don't insure in Queensland.  The phone guy almost sounded alarmed at the prospect.

Just checked my policy
Insure my ride   --- $263 for 15,500 on 2006 ST 1300
That's without riding gear covered and an added bonus of having done an approved rider training course.

This was for the screen the Turkey committed suicide with on the way home from Blackheath.  :fp
They paid for the CalSci screen and freight ( I got a shorty tinted screen as well, which I paid for. ) on the free 1 replacement screen a year part of the policy.  :thumb   Can't complain about the service, as soon as I sent the receipt they sent the check.  :grin
