4 experienced LD riders on 2x ST1300's, a GTR1400 and a GL1800 are hitting the road on a 50cc tomorrow morning with a 03:30 departure from Sydney for Scarbourgh beach in Perth.
They are doing the 50cc as individuals but prodomently traveling together......and if this wasn't epic enough some more of the riders have additional LD plans afoot to head for home.....the long way :hatwave

Rides such as this are posted in a restricted section on
Far-riders FarRiders not available to the general public, I believe we are doing a disservice to the riders attempting these rides by posting on our forum, far-riders FarRiders amongst us have access, those who are not far-riders FarRiders do not need to know.

Skidoo is a member of this forum and also is happy to share his spots even on Facebook. He is actually doing IBA rides so I don't think it is exclusively FarRiders.
I take the view that the more eyes monitoring progress, the more safe the participant. The sooner a problem is noticed, the singer help can be organised.
-
Serious question:
Can someone please explain what the big secret is?
I enjoy following their progress
-
So just to confirm while the riders who undertook this ride are all members of FarRiders (and 3 are members of OzSTOC) this ride is an IBA certified ride and has no connection to FarRiders just as it has none to OzSTOC. Naturally there are members of both organizations who have a genuine interest in serious LD riding.
The public SPOT profile of Skidooo has been posted on here (and I only presume FarRiders) with the permission of the IBA Managment team and the rider.

There is a long winded rationale behind all of this :crackup
But the abbreviated version is this......IBA riding at this level seeking certification for currently certified rides or creating new ones to be certified by the IBA falls into the realms of extreme sports......and as an extreme athlete they don't give up their game plan ;-*
Trust me when I say there are LD riders all over the country and beyond salivating over their keyboards as this unfolds :nahnah
Cheers

Skidoo has reported on FB that he picked up puncture due to an animal bone yesterday and repaired it.
Today the repair is failing, so he is limping into Darwin to hopefully get a new tyre.

Replacement tyre organised for tomorrow morning. Home cooked meal, comfy beds, hot showers and air con will all be waiting for them when they get here.
-
Good onya W! Great to know you are keeping the North safe for those chucking a lap! :rockon
-
Skidooo just called from Timber Creek. He has managed to find a tyre in Katherine so will get that fitted this afternoon before continuing on to Darwin.
-
There is a long winded rationale behind all of this :crackup
Another consideration in the LR community is reluctance to broadcast riding activity that might be viewed by interested Authorities. :whistle
-
Unplanned U-turn and detour. Fatal motorcycle accident south of Adelaide River, I skipped a few heartbeats between hearing of the crash and checking the SPOT link :eek
Skidooo and Abe are still moving, now on the scenic route around Adelaide River. On target for a 5pm(ish) arrival into Darwin :thumbsup

Interesting comment Brian, the rides being attempted are for IBA certification. More information regarding the rides can be found on the IBA Australia forum which has public viewing. I see no disservice to the riders whatsoever, what I do see is some riders who are sharing their experience with the LDRiding community and I think that is fantastic. As someone mentioned three of these riders are OzSTOC and IBA members, they are more than likely members of other groups as well who could also be posting up information too. cheers :beer

After a feed and a few hours sleep, they're on the road again. They're even slightly less smelly. Chucked their clothes through the washing machine and drier.

Thanks, how come it doesn't show the entire journey
You have to change an option to see more than one day.
the option is adjustments and then you can select 1,2,3,4,5,6 days,1weeks, 2weeks etc.
-
Ah there you go... WOOOOOW
-
Thanks, how come it doesn't show the entire journey
Go top right & click on 3 bars...from there click on down arrow next to ride title "back to work monday"...then click adjustments....then top drop down box select "show all" & update map...Spotwalla only shows last 24hrs/1 day as default & is based on Chicago time where Jason is based. Hope this helps.

last stupid question: what do the orange dot represent?
-
last stupid question: what do the orange dot represent?
That's the SPOT GPS tracking device on the bike firing off its data that's shared then with Spotwalla to produce the breadcrumb trail you are viewing.....
The SPOT unit on the bike has a number of other features....User programable OK button, Custom button, Help and the fixed SOS button.
When they have a short/long break Karl has his customised to give break info....hence the little green box etc :wink1
Abe's has a similar setup :thumbsup
-
Gottcha...

The yellow boxes on Karl's is for longer breaks.

:popcorn
Well I know what I'm doing for the rest of the day, Now they just need a satellite camera so I can see them hahaha

These boys really need to start buying some decent tyres.....neither of the them got a week out of a rear tyre. :Stirpot.
GTR replaced in Kathrine due to damage and the ST's being replaced today in Adelaide as it's just worn out......both left home on new PR4 GT's. Heaps of tread on the sides even with the casting tips if your keen to grab a week old tyre for the twisties cheap :whistle
-
Yeah, Abe's tyre didn't look too bad after 5 days, guess that extra couple of days makes the world of difference.....
Just spoke to Abe, he sounds pretty chirpy, incredible ride so far :-++

Back tracking or another mission?
They realised they missed Brisbane on their way north. On their way to complete their set in Sydney.
-
Could it be the boys are slowing down?
They're actually stopping in Toowoomba to sleep, after a relatively leisurely ride in from Goomeri.
-
Having a BBQ with Streak?
-
Do they have a deadline?
-
Might be like the Cairns to Cooktown leg where there was no SPOT, they may be on the move but we can't see them.....
-
I've just spoken to Karl (Skidoooo). His SPOT battery has gone flat. They have finished their timed riding at Toowoomba and are now on their way home. Absolutely awesome effort Abe and Skidoooo!!!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
-
So what was the final reckoning?
-
Noooo the picture isn't complete...it needs to stop where they started
-
It's been an amazing ride by Abe and Karl, and about 17,500km in around eleven days by my reckoning. :-++
I'm very keen see what IBA certifications come out of this epic long distance achievement, and hope to be able to read a full ride report at some time.
-
Well done

AWESOME work guys :-++ :-++ :-++
-
Noooo the picture isn't complete...it needs to stop where they started
I thought they would go west from Cairns (Townsville?) to do the figure 8.
Whatever the aim, it is a legendary effort. (Mind you, the Credit Card bill for fuel will be scary!)
-
Good morning one and all.
A massive big thank-you to all the supporters, that supplied a happy smile, escorts (legal kind), phone calls, food, shower and bed to name a few :Blow.
More on that in RR.
Thanks for watching, I hope you didn't get too bored, we weren't.
We started with a dynamic ride plan, that was several months in the planning (by Karl)
Over 18,000 kms in 11 days.
All will be revealed in the ride report in a couple of weeks.
Till then, keep riding. :thumb

Funnily enough, my son suggested I should have flown to Melbourne to meet the intrepid travellers after witnessing their forms in both Perth and Darwin......I decided against it on a purely financial basis....

Well done Skidoooo. Amazing. :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs
A quick and dirty Google Maps, gives around 3940km, give or take a few.
-
According to Skidoooo on FB, just on 4,000 km. And a quick calculation by me on start and stop times around 47:40 hours. Champion effort considering heavy fog, and lots of cattle and roos were encountered.
