Title: Hello from cruisa in Rockhampton QLD
Post by: cruiza on May 05, 2016, 08:16:45 PM
Hey lads and Lad-ess, thanks for the ad, to introduce myself, I am a Kiwi, I have a sheep skin seat cover on my bike, so I never feel lonely. I used to be a reasonably good touring rider, and was happy with that but 9 years ago moved to Australia and sold my bike. But yesterday I jumped on a plane, flew to Brisbane and brought a 2000 model ST1100 Honda, I believe ST stands for Sexually Transmitted, don't know if that true just glad it's not a diesel.
So I wanted a touring bike something large, I am a big guy, comfy and reliable, hopefully that's what I got. Anyway I was a bundle of nerves yesterday, 9 years is a very long time to go without throwing a leg over and to say it was a humbling experience would be an understatement. I was terrible, so so rusty after a ten minute ride I figured the bike was a good one and paid for it then we rode to Suncity motorcycles on the sunshine coast and had a look at some jackets I brought one, but struck out on boots, that's the trouble when you are a big lad, finding cloths to fit, and you know what they say about guys with big hands and big feet, yep I have a big tummy too.
Fortunately on my second ride of about 20 minutes things were a bit better. Now it was time to head home, but it was already after lunch time and now raining, back to scared again, on the motorway in heavy traffic shiny roads slippery patches and me rusty as nervous as in the slow lane with a new helmet that was tight gloves that were tight not feeling very comfortable at all.
I made it to Gypie and stopped at beefy pies I was tired. riding in the rain heavy traffic the stress of buying the bike were taking a toll, plus the discomfort of new tight fitting gear. After a decent rest it was time to set off again in now heavy rain, at Marybough it was now 4pm and time to make a call to go on or stop, there was no way I was going to make it home before dark and no way was i riding after dark in the rain, back in the day I thought nothing of riding in the rain I am a Kiwi after all I have ridden in rain snow storms, and floods. I ended up staying in the excellent Kondair resort in Harvey Bay
Sunday morning and dawned wet again (sigh) so at 6:00 AM I headed off into the rain and made good progress at least no traffic to contend with. Mirain Vale was breakfast and bum stop, and finally the rain stopped, it was time to enjoy dry roads light traffic and my skills were coming back as was my confidence. home by 11:30 in Gracemere.
The bike looks like being a good one rode beautifully smooth as silk V4 shaft drive, needs bit of work cosmetically and I have a few ideas on fixing a few nuisance items.
But for now I need to ride and get my moo joe back. My wife has already got a helmet and is waiting for me to get confident to take her with me. So hopefully you see me on a few rides soon, I will be the big guy at the back of the pack, if I can keep up that is
Sheers for now
Shiny side up

That's a beautiful shade of blue on a great bike.  I wonder if it's a repaint, because I don't think the ST11 came in that shade.
What year and how many kays?

There are quite a few of us in SE Queensland.  As you can see, there's a lunch at Laidley coming up soon.  If you can get along there you'll be made very welcome and will get to meet a few of the folks who live on this Forum.  I'm double booked, so can't make that one.

All the best with developing the ST,
Bill

Hi thanks Biggles and Gadget, shes a 2000 ST1100 PY so ex police bike, it was repainted pre 2006 as I have the history on her and she was blue then but would have originally been white I assume, it is a really nice shade of blue and looks good in photos and from a distance, in the flesh every part has a scratch or chip, the locks on the side boxes need replacing, any suggestion, local lock smith can re-key them i just need the key barrels
it has 59,000 on the clock and judging from wear on foot pegs etc I think the Km are real, it still has original cop speedo too. so far I have found a few minor issues, adjusted the clutch lever stuff like that, also a bit of plastic trim on the ignition key barrel missing.
I would like to get a large top box that can hold two helmets and be lockable

Oh and just realised my spell checker and stuffed me up lol cruiza not with an s

Cheers

That's low km for an ex-Cop bike.  I bought one with 90,000 and that seems to be more common than 50,000 kays.
It's hard to find good plastic bits now, as the doesn't tolerate sunshine well.  A locksmith can key-alike barrels if you take them in.
Someone will chime in with a topbox recommendation.  The Givi ones are popular and I think the 45 litre one is good for two helmets.
Brian might visit you with his polishing kit and get those imperfections out.
It's what he does...

thanks Biggles, I have most of the history on the bike and recorded KM going back over last two owners, that and condition of rubbers etc I think the KM are real, last owner did 10,000 km and the one before 2000 over 2 and a bit years which gets me back to 2006

Sadly with the chips and scatches I think it is beyond a cut and buff, would be nice and well worth doing if it could be but yeah past that, have you guys got any suggestion for wreckers who might have bits for ST etc

Welcome to OzSTOC Cruiza from just up the road - Bakers Ck, just Sth of Mackay.

Being a fellow rider of a wonderful STeed, you will undoubtedly become afflicted by the condition of 'How Soon Can We Go for a Ride??' Pillions seem to suffer from a slightly different form of the condition - 'Why Can't We Go for a Ride Now??'  Treatment of both conditions involves coffee, hand-shakes and odometer movement... Are you and Mrs Cruisa doing anything tomorrow?  We have Saturday off and Miss Scarlett needs to stretch her legs

Give us a call if you like the idea, or just wanna chat - John 0407913065 & Kate.

Welcome Cruiza, I think you'll find the paniers deceptively large while you look for a topbox. When my GF follows on her suzi SV650, we manage to stuff 2 helmets and a jacket in the paniers. (My xxl jacket doesn't quiet make it, so goes in the topbox)
