Of course if you're going to break down it's going to be in peak hour traffic ( or the middle of nowhere).
Oh well, I was due for a service anyway.

And we will see if our ST diagnostics team can "guess" the issue....may even be a little something in it for the person who diagnoses correctly :think1

Stalled at the lights on Beaudesert Rd Acacia Ridge. Pushed the starter and nothing. Pushed over to the cafe over the road and got a coffee while I thought. 😊
No electicity. No lights, no start, no gauge lights. No hill to bump start. I thought that side of the road was not the safe place to pull off Tupperware to check battery or fuses, so RACQ took it up to Olivers for me (due for a service anyway).
Hopefully a blown fuse or loose connection at the starter block.
Any other opinions are very welcome as I'm not very bike literate, but I can do my own service on my landcruiser.

Dead battery would be my guess as I had the same problem. Rode bike towork no problem finished work went to start bike nothing checked fuses all good put a battery pack on to try and jump start dead as a dodo had to wait until next day to buy new battery

Had a similar problem with my previous bike , started the bike in the garage rolled it outside to close the door and the bike stalled , when I went to restart it nothing all I got was a clicking sound from the starter relay, it would jump start off the car , when I took the battery in to get checked it had lost all cranking power , installed a gell pack battery with stronger cranking amps.

Well, Oliver's called back.
Regulator rectifier broke down & overcharged the battery, killing the battery as well.
They say because it's hard to get to, the labour will be big too.
I'm a (mature age) uni student, so really don't want to fork out a grand$$ on repairs, so its going into the shed until July holidays, where I'll get to spend some time learning alllll about the rear end & electricals of my bike.
In the mean time I guess I'm off to ebay for parts.
Needs a service anyway, so I can do that at the same time.
Thanks NTRebel & Phil.S, in a way it WAS the dead battery that stopped me, but the cause of the dead battery is the big problem!

I had a similar problem with the Mighty CB1300 a few years back. In my case (I was told) it was a combination of the battery dying, all-day riding with lights and running lights on full beam, the rectifier could handle that non-stop request for output and shyte itself.
My costs were only in the order of a few hundred $$, I hope they are not trying to rip you off.

I think I was about $650 out of pocket when my regulator rectifier blew on the ST1100 a couple of years ago, luckily for me it didn't kill the battery.

They reckoned about 6 hr labour, plus about $300 in parts (reg/rec & battery), so all up about $1200.
I'll have 4 weeks spare in July, even if it takes me 3 days I'm still ahead, & have spare time.

At least I was lucky mine was only the cost of new battery but now I'll keep an eye on theR/R it's great you know just what the cause was though. :dred11 :dred11

$150 an hour for labour is a bit rich!

It was an quick quote phone call to ask if he should proceed, so I probably missed a few other things he mentioned. I was just in shock from the price.

I cant remember how much it coST to have STrangers Alternator rewired when it burnt out,, 40 amp police, but I went to an auto electrician shop and it was a hell of a lot cheaper to re-wire it. I don't know if its the same problem with yours but it may pay to ask an auto electrician place about it and if they have a substitute part thats cheaper..
STranger dosent have a bit that other ST's have coz its built into the alternator/generator.. thingybit..
you have to remove the swingarm to get the Alt,,, out :( but with the right tools its pretty easy.. ;)

Picked up, $100/hr labour x 2hrs. Fair enough. Olivers were very helpful with the loading and threw in some extra ratchet straps too.

So why was the L/H muffler taken off to look at the battery????

They took off all the rear Tupperware for ease of access. It's all in a box. They had the wheel & swingarm off to get to the rec/reg but had to put them back for mobility.
