Title: Whyalla Day Trip
Post by: alans1100 on May 17, 2016, 10:16:19 PM
Sorry, no pics for this one.

We went over to Whyalla this morning to baby sit our great grandson while GD was having an ultra sound to check on her expected baby which is due in September. Another girl on the way.

Bit of a chilly start at 7:45 am so just idled a long at about 80/90 until it warmed up a little. Had some fog as well though and we could almost reach up and touch the clouds at the top of Horrocks Pass. Went through the pass following a camper van with a car in tow so just left the bike in 4th and occasional drop to 3rd when the van slowed for a few corners.

The Port Augusta side of the pass was a little warmer so upped the pace to state limit and arrived at daughters house at 10:15 making 2.5 hours non stop for 201km.

Wanting to get home before it got to late we left just after 1:00 and stopped of at KFC for lunch before leaving Whyalla. We did get held up a little getting to Port Augusta. Over width boat on a low loader; would have passed it but on coming traffic would always get in the way. Stopped off at Woolworths while in town to get some food for the dogs.

Normally I'd top the tank at the Port but this time I didn't and the fuel warning came on briefly just as we got to the 60k/h speed zone for Peterborough which made it about 425km from full. Arrived home at 5:00 and 427km on the trip meter making it  417km day and about 5 hours riding time.

Hi Alan, thanks for the RR. We are going to be passing through Peterborough late June on our way to Wilpena Pound , Flinders Ranges. Would love to meet you and Heather on our way there or on return, will be a very brief coffee stop. Passed through Peterborough in 2012 on our way to Maree Birdsville and across the Simpson, wasn't member of Oztoc then.
Cheers.
