Title: Exhaust pressure
Post by: troy_s on May 29, 2016, 09:19:07 AM
Morning all,
My mechanical knowledge is close to not much. Don't ask me how I first discovered this, but i have noticed that if you hold your hands over each exhaust outlet there is considerably less force of the exhaust from the right side compared with the left.

Is this something I need to be concerned about, and if so, how concerned?

cheers
Troy

Troy do you feel that there is less pressure coming out of the offside (right side sitting on the bike) exhaust ??

If so, check the exhaust clamp near the foot pegs are tight, as they loosen them and roll the muffler out of the way when fitting a tyre.

From memory the two sides are interconnected so it probably doesn't mean a lot.

I thought so too. I believe it is done to keep suitable back pressure on every cylinder.

Maybe your bike needs a carb vacuum balance, if the two left cylinders are sucking more air the right side bank maybe the exhaust balance is off.

Not being particularly mechanically minded, mine is fuel injected. Does this have a bearing on your suggestion?

Yep, no carbs

Yep no carb but a vacuum balance to the throttle bodies always helps make your bike run better and may be contributing to the exhaust imbalance.
Not sure if there is a cross over in the final section of the exhaust, if there is it might be a restriction in the right side muffler causing the problem as the exhaust gasses will find the least resistance to escape.

STroppy knows all too well about my back pressure.
After spending 24hrs in the same small car together i'm sure Tipsy knows all about it too.... :'(
