Title: SA - Footpath parking trial
Post by: StinkyPete on June 07, 2016, 09:50:40 AM
Adelaide city council has recently introduced footpath parking for motorcycles in limited areas.   This is a encouraging move and I hope the trial is considered a success and is extended to other areas.   Here's the article from the current RAA's  "SA Motor" magazine.

I've never had an issue finding free bike parking in the city except for the spaces across the road in front of the old RAH. I know it's a trial but how does one get a 300kg plus bike up the kerb into one of these spaces?

It doesn't look as if the new areas are very big.  In Brisbane the spaces are all full by 8:00 (or earlier in some streets).
Forbidding riding on the footpath is understandable if pedestrians are involved, but you'd hope you are allowed to ride from the road onto an adjacent spot.  Not everyone can push a bike any useful distance.

How does that work in Melbourne?

In the PDF file

The section at Victoria square they have set aside for parking used to be a two lane road which allowed for left turn traffic onto Franklin Street. That was removed to give more of the park space back to the people which was then taken back when the tram was rerouted through the park.

The second area is next to a car park entrance so I guess you ride straight in.
