Post by: spanner on July 27, 2016, 01:29:00 PM
this could be the ONLY good news if Trump becomes President.

I've been waiting for a single positive surrounding that possibility.  I guess that's better than nothing, but it won't offset the negatives.

Wouldn't hold my breath on it.  Trump seems more and more like a hand grenade that someone has dropped the pin and handle out of.  I think even some staunch Republican stalwarts are running for the door.

I'm told that the Australian Exporters would prefer a low Aussie $$$.

I too, am waiting for the $$$ to come closer to parity. I have a few things I wish to purchase that are simply NOT available in Aus!!!

i know the exporters are keen but that does not help me in the here and now.

I know I should be looking at the long term benefits to the Australian economy but the politicians dont seem to give a crap about us Plebs so F*&kit!

The low Aussie Dollar, not only helps me (getting paid in US dollars) but it help with the manufacturing sector as companies will stop out sourcing to India etc.

The only people who win out of the parity are travellers and people buying stuff online

The problem with that is that what most of us buy (oil, household goods clothing etc.) is now imported and the lower our dollar is makes it more expensive for us.

I'm also looking forward to a stronger AUD for on-line shopping purposes.  When purchasing from the USA the cost of freight is becoming ridiculous and in some cases worth more than the goods.  As an example I bought a pair of fork springs when the Oz dollar was almost parity for $90 and the freight cost was exactly the same again!  :eek   For the cost of freight alone I've found better deals on bike stuff in the UK & Germany.

I have to disagree. Try telling our farmers that parity is a good thing.
This country only generates wealth for itself if we are a net exporter.
Parity creates the opposite. Our exports become uncompetitive and imported goods become cheaper which means we consume and import more.
Might be good for overseas ebay purchases but if you dont have a job you aint gunna be buying anything anyway.
