SAPOL also use some "undercover" bikes. They are dark blue BMW's with the riders wearing black leathers with very dark SAPOL shoulder patches that can only be identified at close range. I have no problem with these undercover bikes.

They have under cover bikes here in the West also, even have a top box. I think mainly used on the freeway to catch phone users..
Not that they see white bike with the rider wearing fluro vests any way

I don't think it's that Gadget, watching this subject on other sites the main concern is single rider security especially lady riders pulling over for an unmarked unidentified bike. A little different to an unmarked car where the police are in uniform.
My wife rides and she has said she would be terrified to pull over for an unknown bike. Anyone can buy blue lights and blue lights alone doesn't make a police vehicle to the public.
I believe the solution is to send the infringement via post the same way red light cameras and fixed and mobile speed cameras work.

entrapment is a practice whereby a law enforcement agent induces a person to commit a offense that the person would have otherwise been unlikely to commit.
Break the law and face the consequences....very simple...

Do you think you'd see that in the mirrors on a bike? And as Pete said in SA they dull down the patches...
I don't really care about entrapment or whether it's fair or not ... My concern is only rider security... A dark bike comes up behind you, the rider is dressed in dark clothing (I'm sure you won't see the arm patches) blue and red lights come on and that's all you get that this is a police officer.
You're a female riding home from work, the road is quiet and your telling me it's ok for her to pull over and trust that it's a police officer when the only indicator is the blue lights. Your advocating that because this "female" was speeding she should surrender her safety and pull over......and if it isn't a police officer then she was just asking for it......
What are you telling your kids...that only Police have blue lights .... If your not sure pull over anyway???
We've told our kids if in doubt don't pull over call 000 and/or drive to a police station, but to have camping gear etc is moving them further and further away from being a police officer...
In this day and age the bad guys don't play by the rules anymore....

You could always advise single females or anyone to continue riding at the speed limit to the nearest servicestation where security Camas offer some protection.
There has only been one fake unmarked car and that was in Victoria and that was only hearsay, never proved. The level of punishment for the offence for impersonating a Police Officer is quite severe.

I don't mind the STealth bikes , I'd rather these than the country 4 wheel drive quota cops.. just don't tell fibs, mr plod

Oops that's right ya can't buy that stuff from China, your obviously not going to respect my point of view and keep coming back with more and more ludicrous arguments that takes the context away from the point I'm trying to make.
- being less and less identifiable as police sets a dangerous precedence for lone riders safety....period...
It has nothing to do with how many lights they have
It has nothing to do with what the siren sounds like
It has nothing to do with modulated headlights
It has nothing to do with the flashing rate of the lights
It has nothing to do with the cycle rate or decibel level the siren is set at
It has nothing to do with the 4x3 inch badge on their shoulder which is of course easily identifiable from 500 metres away at 100 kph
Better look up your statistics as I'm sure there has been more than one instance of impersonating a police officer in the history of Policing in Australia.
So come back with some other reason why your right and I'm wrong, but this is my last word on this subject..

I think I get what you are saying and agree that if Police make themselves look to much like everyday motorists it makes it a lot easier for people to impersonate Police Officers.
I believe that it isn't an issue if they are not the ones to pull people over.
They could identify the offender for a marked Officer to intercept them or issue a fine in the post.
However the best option if anyone isn't sure then as you said:

The Police will tell you, that if you dont think the person pulling you over isnt police, then as Shiney said, go to the nearest Police station, or look for a police car. If you can call 000 and report your suspicions they will soon be able to confirm if there is a police vehicle behind you. In these occasions, you will not be charged with failing to stop.
