Title: SA's Rawnsley Park Station RTE - Sept 2016
Post by: StinkyPete on September 11, 2016, 06:13:20 PM
We had a wonderful weekend for our September overnight RTE at Rawnsley Park Station in the Flinders Ranges, with five members attending. It was an easy 440km ride from Adelaide in beautiful riding weather.  Langers and JohnG put up tents and MikeP, Richo and myself shared a cabin.  Langers spend some time figuring out how to erect his brand new tent (photos), and was not going to report his "breakdown" on the way up, but I will.....   After a bakery stop for morno's at Kiplings Bakery, Port Wakefield his bike was dead as a maggot, and five minutes later he figured out that it will start if put in neutral.    :fp    Please don't spread this indiscretion and keep it to yourselves.  We rolled in to Rawnsley Park Station at the southern edge of Wilpena Pound around 3.00pm. Trying something different, we took food with us and cooked and ate in the Massive Camp Kitchen, and then sat with the big crowd from the park and watched the Adelaide Crows give North Melbourne a football lesson.   We had a late start this morning and headed in different directions.   Mike was riding north to Blinman, and JohnG peeled off at Orroroo, with Langers, Richo and I returning to Adelaide via a stunning ride along the RM Williams Way.     We stopped for a quick photo at the "almost a town" at Yatina, which consists of an abandoned pub and a couple of old houses.   However, Google Yatina and see what evil bobs up!!  We didn't stop for long...

It was a wonderful weekend ride to a beautiful part of SA.   :thumb

It was a great ride, and get-together, and good to catch up in such fantastic surroundings. The run to Blinman was as you'd expect beaut. Blinman offers genuine Cornish pasties with savoury at one end and sweet at the other, just like the Cornish coal miners used to eat, and as chance had it the Blinman Art show was on and so was the Wilpena art show, so it was a lateish arrival home even though home was not as far away for me as the southern contingent. Thanks for organising it Pete!   8) :thumbsup

Yes as much as I would like to lie, obfuscate (what a great word) or blame someone else like a current day politician would, I have to admit I didn't notice the green light not aglowin' when I tried to start Scarlett at Pt Wakefield and I must say, that feeling of dread when something like that happens is not good. In fact only surpassed when one realises Pete is there to report the indiscretion to the world.
Nonetheless, a great trip, some unbelievably stunning scenery between Hawker and Rawnsley Park, great fellowship with OzStoc-ers and, importantly for me, no more wriggling around like a tortoise on it's back getting dressed - I can stand in a tent that is compact enough to take on a bike - I can highly recommend the experience.
Many thanks to my fellow travellers.
