Title: Nearly got rear ended this afternoon
Post by: Kev Murphy on September 17, 2016, 05:24:01 PM
Had a ride to Warrnambool this afternoon to get an item from Bunnings. First set of lights west after leaving Bunnings is outside of the major shopping centre.. yellow light as I approached, I braked and stopped.
3 seconds later I hear the horrifying howl of offroad tyres from a 4WD directly behind me, I dropped the clutch, lurched past the 2 cars in the right turning lanes and stopped on the pedestrian walkway.
The 4WD maggot howled through to the middle of the intersection right in front of the traffic from the shopping centre which had already started to move.
Quick reaction from one of those drivers prevented him from slamming into the drivers door of the 4WD. When the (Teen F-WIT?) driver in the FWD exited his vehicle, he still had his bloody mobile in his hand.. about 30 metres of skid marks from his off road tyres attests to the speed this idiot was traveling. He missed my back wheel by less than a foot. The traffic was at a standstill, because the clown was blocking both lanes where he finally stopped sideways about 3/4 way through the intersection. Unmarked Police car was 4 cars back in the far left lane, and witnessed the whole incident.
They estimated his speed at around 85 KPH in a 70 zone.

I doctored the below image from Google streetview to better explain how close I was to wearing a high speed bull bar from the rear.

:eek   Good reaction Kev, and shows the value in stopping at lights with the bike in gear and ready to launch.

Would have caused a bit more damage than the emu.   Plus the fact the emu probably has more brains.  Good to see you avoided the twit.

Glad your OK.

It always pays to keep an eye on the mirrors when stopping at lights, Stop signs, Giveways signs and turning into driveways.

I'm happy to hear that you managed to avoid that idiot, it's almost enough to make you give up the bike for the "safety" of a car :eek ... Almost.
Good thing you were on a bike though and able to move out of the way quickly.

I hope the cops throw the book at him (Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle) and take his license away :well

Thanks for sharing mate, it is a good reminder to keep an eye out for idiots behind as well as ahead.

Cheers

Pretty good reactions for an OF!     :clap
What made the nitwit stop?  The Cops or his own fright?

I think the only reason he stopped was the sudden realization (after looking up from his phone) was that all other traffic was stationary, and in fact the light was indeed red. Unmarked cop car was on his left as he skidded past it. Offroad tyres make a godawful noise with brakes locked. I hope I never hear that noise in such close proximity again.

Gary, I think they had the candy lights operating before the 4WD had even stopped. First thing the cop did was to point at the teens phone that he was still holding.
I didn't hear his initial words as I still had my helmet on.

Oooh.  That won't be cheap to get out of!  Red P plates would cap it nicely, but not essential to making a longish list.
