Title: What should the temp guage show

My temp guage moves about quite a bit. Normally it sits over the E in TEMP but soon after stopping or in traffic it goes up to the end of the M. When I get moving again it quickly settles back down to the E. Is this the way it should be?

that range is fairly normal for ST1100's. Ive put an override switch on mine for when in Sydneys traffic.  :thumb

What do you mean an over ride switch?

I have noticed that my girls temp temp really skyrockets when in summer traffic in Townsville and also last year in Sydney.   

Do you have a fan switch or something??

That's normal.

You shouldn't have an issue unless either the fan stops working or the thermo switch (turns fan on/off) in the radiator fails like mine has but the bike is still rideable though at the moment I wouldn't ride in the city with all the stop/start going on.

Some use a wired in switch so they can manually turn the fan on/off but the OEM system is designed to keep the coolant temp where it should be.
