Title: Guyra Road and Kempsy Road - any good?
Post by: Sandman on December 28, 2016, 07:11:13 AM
I'm heading off to Toukley from the Tweed on New Year's Eve to visit my sick Sister.
I'm heading down to Glen Innes and I was going to take the Guyra Road to Sugarloaf and the head to Bellingen. Not sure how far I'll get past that.
Has anyone been on the Guyra Road lately? Any Good?

I'm also looking at the Armidale Road that becomes the Kempsy Road from Kempsy to Wollomombi Falls on the way back. Has anyone been on this. It looks twisty but I'm not sure of the conditions?

Any help or advice is grateful.

I have to back in the Tweed on the 3rd so it's a day an half down and the same back. I'm ok with 600k plus a day

Morning Sandman,

Guyra to Bellingen is easy.....ALL bitumen all the way. Guyra to Ebor is a little uneven in places but a 100kph road none the less  :thumb

If you have time (adds 20mins) and would rather a quieter rural twisty road continue past the Dorrigo turn off when you are about 10k's East of Ebor and continue down Grafton Rd to just prior to Tyringham and turn right towards Bostobrick......follow this into North Dorrigo and Dorrigo (Steam trains on your left as you come into Dorrigo from Nth Dorrigo).

Great Bakery if you turn Right at the Soldiers Monument in the middle of town.

Kempsey to Wollomombi.....Great scenery  :like BUT not an ST friendly road at all. Dirt, Gravel, Narrow, Rock slides on the New England end....

Alternatives:

Pacific Hwy to Gloucester is rough  :OldMan and nearly as bad up Thunderbolts to Walcha  :fp.....

Oxley Hwy has a lower speed limit now due to the number of recent motorcycle related incidents on the Gingers Creek end....but the roads is great.

Waterfall Way is a great riding road from Thora up to Armidale.....like wise is by pass Coffs by going up through the Orara Valley Way to nearly Grafton then Left onto the Grafton- Armidale road to Ebor. Grafton to Glen Innes via the Gwydir Hwy is also a great ride although Hot as buggery and subject to afternoon storms more than anywhere else in this area.

enjoy  :thumbsup

Wow thanks for the detail
Saved me from going off road. Would have been especially if it rains
Now all I need is a good map. I'm old school even though I have a GPS
 WOW:
