A funny thing happened to our phone line yesterday morning.
We were supposed to be connected the NBN on the 13th of Jan and as luck would have it we had rain all that day so connection cancelled given another connection date on the 18th. That to came and went and no new connection and still on ADSL.
I rang our ISP last Thursday and all they could find out was that the work wasn't completed and another connection date for the 1st Feb was arranged. Contacted the NBNs Facebook page and made a complaint and we have a case manager who will supposedly make sure all goes well on the 1st.
Also on the phone call to the ISP was a request to cancel the phone service as we don't use it anymore and that was done which just left us using ADSL only.
This morning no internet. Rang the ISP again and it seems that since the service was changed, Telstra who owns the phone exchange disconnected the line meaning we have no internet connection until connection to the NBN.
Heather has 9GB of included data a month on her phone plan and I've set up our two PCs to connect via the phone's hotspot but it means limited internet usage over the next week. If the 9GB looks like running out I guess I can recharge the laptop's USB modem
-
9 gig should last until Wednesday, unless you are on netflix all day
-
I was flat out trying to use my 25 GB phone allowance and only manage 6 GB in 30 days

Strewth, I dunno what you are doing to burn that much. I download some youtube vids and look at a few websites, but can only get through about 12 GB of our 200 each month.
Try stepping away from the 'puter for meals and showers.

Used just over 2.2 GB since about 1:00pm yesterday with two desktops and I've rarely used mine online today.
I'd still sooner buy blu ray movies (DVD if no choice) than pay something like Netflix for something you never own.

With two PCs online and doing not much more than you we manage about 60GB of out 100GB monthly allowance. Might use a bit more if I download some You Tube music vids which might push it up to 70 for the month.

NBN is due to connect here shortly... have had an email from Telstra, and two snail mail letters from iiNet and TPG trying to pirate my account in the past week. Currently on ADSL2, I use between 300 and 400 gig per month of my 700 gig quota.
-
I dont have IINET NBN yet, but I have been with IINET for some time. I wont ever have an account with telstra again.
-
I think Heather has just nearly used all her data on her phone plan and when that happens Optus automatically adds another 1 GB for $10.
In any case I recharged the prepaid broadband on the laptop and have a whole year to use 14GB (7GB plus double data promotion) which at the moment seems impossible to do.

'We don't know when our NBN will be connected. After the 2nd failed attempt at being connected I put in a complaint to the NBN Facebook page and eventually given a case manager who I spoke to for the 2nd time yesterday morning.
I was told that the connection was put on hold but no reason given and a promise of a follow up phone call after she had more info. In the meantime I advised our ISP of what was going on and they found out there was a problem with the node but no details. The follow up call came just after midday and I was advised that the node was damaged via tree pruning (a branch fell on it) and hadn't been repaired. I told her that wasn't quite right as a tree fell on the node which was caused a recent storm five weeks ago.
It would have been nice if they had told a few people that a node was down and nothing could be connected until was repaired which in turn would have meant I would have kept the phone a little longer and still have ADSL. I advised our ISP of the issue and they've made a note of it as they don't get that sort of info if something goes wrong.
-
Another reason I don't like the node technology (FTTN). A tree branch, a car accident, vandalism can all take them out.
British Telecom and NZ Telecom both went FTTN, discovered it was full of problems and are replacing it with FTTP.

Interesting reading Alan. I had NBN connected yesterday and what a comedy of of mismanagement and misinformation has come from NBN, too long a story to write up here. But it is now working and very fast compared to being on the end of 4.5 kms of copper. I am just hoping that I will get some reliability from it. I am looking forward to not having my ISP on speed dial. I have the
HFC connection. The big pain is that I have a new landline phone number and have to wait for about ten days before hopefully getting my old number back.
I hope you get yours sorted soon.

We got a letter from a supplier saying NBN was now available at our address, so went to see local telco about hooking up through Telstra (why you may well ask!). We were told the address was ready for service, but NBN website would only say construction had started. After quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing. original supplier said they had made a mistake, NBN said we should be connected by 2020 and their website was updated to show build hadn't commenced.
Our local MP advised our neighbour that we should be connected by April (not sure where he's getting his news from.....)
Interesting because we watched the antennas and cabling go up on the towers (fixed wireless installation) late last year........
Watch this space..... :whistle

NBN wireless for outside the town limits has been active here since the end of April - took about two weeks to build the tower and another 10 weeks before it went live.

I just had an email from NBN.
It seems the network repairs have been done and they've booked our connection for the 22nd Feb though no notification from our ISP of the connection date/time yet.
All we can do is wait and see what happens.
My sis has just moved into a new area of Wellard (Kwinana area) and she gets FTTP for her connection next week but has to pay the new development $300 (?) fee.
-
Planned availability: Jan-Jun 2019*.
*This is an estimate and could change.
Because we're so far down the pipeline I'm hoping that FTTP will have taken over, or at least be an option for paying customers.
-
I have had an email from Telstra advising that NBN should be available here sometime in April, at no extra charge than what I am currently paying.
-
You are lucky, to me they say "I dont care if you do have a fone, there is no place in Oz called Kinross"
Well actuall jan - Jun 2018
-
Well actually jan - Jun 2018
Same here- obviously the standard answer.

NBN connected this morning though they haven't notified our ISP yet and I rang them to let them know and only on the 25/5 speed at the moment but still heaps faster than the ADSL2 which managed about 11/1 on a good day. With all the hassle over the last few weeks I'll wait a couple weeks before I go up to the higher speed.

Telstra ADSL2+ in Brisbane north: ping: 21ms download 2.9 upload 0.75
I dream of downloading at 10 Mbps.
We might get NBN April 2018. But I believe that's the standard prediction.
-
From 2014 until last August, I used to get 2.4 Meg/sec on ADSL-2, as I am less than 100 metres from the exchange. Something they did in there reduced my connection to less than 600 Kb/sec, which is the same speed as a friend achieves on the best of days because he lives over 5 Km from the exchange.
After many complaints from me, somehow they managed to double my speed to 1200 Kb/sec, which is still only half the speed compared to what I had for the previous 2 and a half years. Even now, I still have hiccups with buffering while attempting to watch the news live online. Forget about watching YouTube, as buffering occurs every 20 seconds until the link has fully downloaded. On replay, it's fine, but can't do that with live news.
During short intervals of Telstra testing in the wee early hours of the morning over the past six months, I have had speeds between 20 and 40 Mbits per second, but for less than 30 minutes duration. Screen shot below of a 2 minute burst with a 40 second surge.

Roll on April (maybe) and we will see what happens.

We had days like that over the last few months; probably during the NBN construction phase in town.
We only have population of around 1500 and I've noticed the ADSL speed drop slowly since we connected 6 years ago. Might have something to do with the increased movie streaming since our only video shop closed. There's only so much available bandwidth and more people online at the same time reduces the speed for everyone.
