Personal friend of mine lives in Port Macquarie. He did some research and located where my bike is in storage in Birchip. I now have a phone number. :thumb
-
Oh wow, sorry to read about your off. Hope everything is ok
-
I need a knee replacement, will get to the ortho specialist when I am mobile.
Details are in the Balranald RTE thread, Marcus
-
Yeah I just caught up... wow that sucks...

If your bike turns out to be a write off, Sir Richard of Sunbury might have his blue steed on the market ;-* .
-
All good mate. Panel shop said that the frame is straight, and forks are only slightly bent, the rest is just tupperware and mirrors damage.
Will organise recovery when I am in a bit better condition than at present. Will assess it when I see it.
-
That's good news :like
-
bloody hells bells!
I didn't know you had an off.
What are the details? animal? too fast? other car? ..... ??????
-
Hiya mate!.. details are in Balranald RTE thread
-
so just read the 'story'.
What are the legal results? Was the other driver at fault and will they pay for all insurance claims and medical expenses?
-
Yep, Dave, all covered. the bloke turned left to park from the right lane, failed to give way to traffic approaching from behind in the left lane.
(did not look, indicators do not give you right of way)
-
Kev, I've just been reading about your 'off'. So sorry to hear about that, and hope you get that knee replacement sooner rather than later. Bikes can be repaired a lot easier than us, especially at our age. Repair quickly mate
-
Sorry about your knee and fingers. That swelling looks painful.
Amazing that the ST only bent the forks a bit, but completely ripped the wheel off the fourby!
-
I had a visitor here an hour ago ... my dag mate just presented me with a book.
"How to play Golf!" :rofl :crackup :rofl

Speedy recovery there Kev and enjoy your "Golf" book :rofl :rofl
-
Not good to hear. I suppose it has to happen sometimes with the "quality" of some of the drivers on the road. Hope you mend OK.

Hey Kev he would have been better off giving you a book on how to run a Boston marathon. :Stirpot :Stirpot :Stirpot :Stirpot

Good one, Paul. ... But I would probably bomb out. :grin ... Thanks for well wishes, guys. :thumb
-
Hope you get stitched up asap.
It's right on four months since a dozey taxi driver turned across a lane of traffic to turn right into a side street and I came off on the low side avoiding his taxi. He pleaded guilty and is being sentenced in a week or so for careless use causing injury and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. I'm scheduled to see my specialist next month about getting the 3 out of 4 rotator cuff tendons that are torn stitched back together.
Bikes can be fixed or replaced, but take care of yourself Kev
-
Thanks Steve, I have an appointment on Wednesday for referal to a surgeon for upcoming knee replacement.
Had to sleep in my computer chair for 3 days, as I could not get in or out of bed.
Spent last 4 days in bed but managed a short walk today with the aid of two canes.
Best of luck with your recovery/repair as well, mate.
-
Hi Kev, if you are up to it we may pay you a visit after Port Fairy RTE, it's only an hour away🤓
-
I am going to try and get a lift to PF for the lunch, will keep you posted.
-
Let me know how you go with arranging a lift, otherwise I could drive down instead of riding and give you a lift to the RTE :hatwave
-
:thumbsup
-
Latest... Managed to walk a block, and home again... (with the aid of a cane and a few rest stops.) :hatwave
Saw Doctor today, referred to hospital tomorrow morning for more xrays,
and will soon have a date for a top Ortho Surgeon in Geelong Hospital.
... more news as it comes to hand.
-
Hope everything goes well Kev.
-
Thanks Paul

God to hear. Hope its sorted soon.
Cheers,

Xrays done today, will be assessed by surgeon on Sat morning for refferal to specialist in Geelong Hospital.
-
Am walking again without too much discomfort.
Doctor said I should hold off getting my knee replaced and see if I can manage, unless the pain is too great.
Eventually it will have to be done, but he said that to delay surgery as long as possible is the best course of action
-

Would be interesting to know his reasoning. People I know who've had it say it hurts something terrible for a while, but restores their mobility completely.

Will you still get any financial assistance to cover out of pocket expenses should you hold off?
You will want to get something in writing from his insurance company to ensure if you get this done at a later date that ANY out of pocket expenses are covered by them.
-
unknown until I hear from the TAC
-
The reason they like to delay is the 'donk' - artificial joint has a limited life approx 10 to 15 years and where it has to be replaced.
They don't like to do more than one.

I don't even have the name or rego of the driver, or even the make of the vehicle, until I hear back from TAC.
-
Still having difficulty and pain moving around, but much better mobility than a week ago.
Spoke to the guy who is holding my bike, but assessors have not even looked at it yet, seems they are 'on holidays'?
Was told that the guy who I impacted is the local 'DH' of the town of Birchip, and he intends to claim damages from me. ???
HE is the one who caused the accident??
-
That's not good. I hit a kangaroo in Bundey SA the year before last and the bike shop also told me they had issues with the assessors (which I took with a grain of salt). The demise of said bike shop last year is how I stumbled across this forum and enable me to attend a few RTE's including Balranald. I hope you recover soon and get all that mess sorted out as well.

Latest update.
Had a mild stroke 3 weeks ago from a blood clot caused by the accident. I lost motor control of my right arm. Doc gave me a one-off dose of Ratsak (Warfarin) to dissolve the clot, and I now have 95% use of my right arm, altho' I still sometimes slop my coffee :grin
Am improving daily, can now use keyboard with both hands again.
Was as funny as hell the first couple of days with the floppy arm. I wasn't game to attempt to light a ciggy, as I was unsure if I would set fire to my ear, my armpit, or my elbow! Stabbed myself in the face with a spoon at mealtimes a couple of times as well :crackup
Contacted RACV in Birchip today regarding recovery of my bike, and will travel there on Friday 23rd in three weeks time to trailer it home.
Then comes assessment of repairs. Replacement plastics will arrive tonight, many thanks to AJ1300 for supply at a very reasonable price.
May take a few months to afford the cost of as-yet unknown repairs.
Life is good. :thumb

Shyte Kev, you are in the wars. Good luck with the recoveries.
Some of my thoughts:
* One arm didn't slow you down on the keyboard.
* Two hands on the keyboard. Hopefully the jokes will improve.
* No smoking? Every cloud has a silver lining.
* Afford the cost of the repairs? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??? Isn't the other at fault party bearing the cost of full restorations and repair?
* Life is good. Sure is!
Do you need a hand getting the bike from Birchip? I might be able to help ..... might, 'specially if you have access to a trailer.
-
All good Michael, regarding picking up the bike. Have a trailer with a winch and 3 mates coming for the trip. Thanks for the offer.
The at fault driver has no funds, waste of time trying to get anything from him as he was also uninsured.
Can't squeeze juice from a rock.
-
If you're insured then they'll fix the bike (unless it's a write off) for you and chase up the other party for the cash
-
>:() It sure doesn't sound like you have had a good run as of late Kev :fp
However it is really good to hear that things are finally starting to look up for you :thumbsup
Keep up the positive attitude and keep the updates coming mate :hatwave
Cheers
Shiney
-
Neither of us were insured. I let mine lapse so that I had the funds to attend the RTE that weekend, with intention of re-insuring the following weekend when I received my next pension payment. My insurance expired 3 days before the accident.
Just bad timing.
-
Sorry to hear the latest Kev :fp. Wishing you all the very best, and as Brother Shiney said, keep up the positive attitude :thumbs. If we can help in any way at all please let us know :like.
Cheers 🤓
-
All good, Jd ;-* Thanks mate.

Geez Kev. Look after yourself and get better soon.

This sorta explains why your lokes are a bit off lately.
o:) o:) o:)

Sorry about that Brock, but I tried as well as I could under the circumstances. :thumb
-
I had a delivery. Many many thanks to Aj1300 for replacement plastics etc which I received today.
Now to get the bike home and start repairing.
-
What about your dicky knee?
Any word on a rebuild date?
-
Not pressing for it at the moment, Gary. Seems to be improving a little as time goes on.

I have organised a trip to collect my bike and get it home on 23rd June. 600 km round trip.
Discovered that the recovery charges are far more than double the cost for the three of us to drive there and back, including meals and drinks for the three of us for the day trip.
$374 charges for winching the bike onto the truck, and transporting it less than 900 metres, 4 blocks away?
... I thought Ned Kelly was dead!
Police informed me that the driver has been hit with 6 charges but I do not have the details.
-
After my accident in 2012 I was told the other driver would be charged but I never heard anything after that. As for recovery charges, wouldn't insurance cover that?
-
My insurance expired 3 days earlier, and the other driver has none. No point taking him to court, he has nothing of value, and is known locally as the town idiot. His repairs will be far higher cost than mine.
-
Why would you ride without insurance?
-
Didnt get renewal notice until the following Monday. Blame Australia Post.
-

I pay insurance monthly and it auto re-knews the policy every 12 months if I don't take action. I still get the yearly renewal letter which will advise of any change the premium.
-
Have just walked in the door after trailering my bike home, been a long day.
A bit over 600 km round trip, we left home 7.45 this morning.
Most damage appears to be the plastics, the right hand side suffering the most. Front wheel appears undamaged, will be able to tell once I start stripping the bike down. Front forks appear straight, but again, cannot tell until they are removed. Both mirrors and plastics are kaput, as are both drop covers.
Right side rear pannier has a fist sized hole punched through the front corner, will check for further damage in daylight. Right side muffler is at an odd angle, but it might be just the bracket is bent. Ignition has been left switched on since the accident and the lithium battery is totally dead. No visible damage to radiator or motor.
Will post some pics tomorrow.
-
Best of luck Kev with the rebuild, hope it all comes together with ease
But I'm sure members on the forum will help out :hatwave

New battery, start, ride ......... you'll know more then.
-
Unrideable at the moment, no mirrors or indicators
-
Good luck with it Kev.

Kev...
I have a pair of OEM mufflers you can have (free), if you need them. They have had a steel rod hammered up em so they are marginally louder, but are in very good nick. I replaced them with a set of OEM's I got off of Saaz.
Cheers the can :-)
PS...worse case scenario, U could always buy my '58 Plover off me n finish up where U started from ;-)
-
I have a pannier lid (unsure of which side) but will advise....its white but your welcome to it.
Steveo may have some mirror covers that I gave him some years ago if he didn't use them :think1
:beer

Whup! Slow down guys, I still have to get a look at and see the damage in daylight, yet! :p
Am heading to the Bike shop with my camera tomorrow.

Its a (R) side pannier lid in fair condition....far better than yours anyway, and it was burgundy and had a very rough coat of primer applied.
But its yours if required...

Here's a couple of pics, hard to get any photos from the other side as the bike is surrounded at the moment.
I have ordered new mirrors, indicators and covers. Have most of the other plastics.

I'm going in for shoulder reconstruction surgery Friday week as a result of a taxi driver cutting through a gap in the traffic six months ago. I have 3 out of 4 rotator cuff tendons torn, one hanging on by a few threads. In the time since the accident the driver has been convicted of dangerous driving causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident, my bike has been repaired as good as new (thank you YOUI!), I have a new jacket and boots (thank you YOUI again!), the inflammation in my shoulder has gone down and my physiotherapy has loosened up the movement in my shoulder ready for the op.
But it'll be six weeks with my arm strapped to my torso and another six weeks on restricted duties. My physiotherapist has told my wife that I'm not to do any housework for a year (my physiotherapist rides a motorbike and thinks we bike riders have got to stick together!)
-
Best of luck with steady recovery after surgery, Steve.

Kev,
I posted this in ST1100 section a few weeks ago, but in case you need more bits & pieces, here it is again:

All good thanks mate, I have most of required parts, and those still needed are already damaged on that bike. :thumb
Cheers, Kev

Hi Kev :hatwave, how is the rebuild going?🤓

Too cold to do anything yet, Jonathan. Am wogged up inside my home with the winter lurgy.

Getter better Kev. :grin
Work gives us free flu shots every year, and I've not been really crook since.
