Title: Oxford Grips going Gooey
Post by: Piet on March 29, 2017, 12:07:32 PM
I purchased Oxford grips a coupe of years ago.
I always park the bike in a garage over night and during the day at work I always have a bike cover over her.
In the last 6 months the LH grip in particular is going gooey and looks like it is starting to melt.

More recently (1 year ago) my son purchased his Oxford grips and his bike is often exposed to the elements.
His grips are worse than mine.

Anyone else having issues with the grip compound turning to a tacky molten mess?

I've had mine for a number or years now and they are still OK, showing no deterioration of the rubber grips.

Do you wear riding gloves?  I only ask in case sweat from your hands is a factor.  I've noticed mine wear a bit faster than factory grips, but haven't had them become sticky.

Thanks Guys, appreciate the feedback.

Just confirms to me that that newer stock might have a batch problem with the compound.
I have just sent of an email to Oxford in the hope they know what's going on.
I will upload a photo soon showing where it is starting to deteriorate.

Perhaps a free replacement.

You are not the only one - seems like a faulty batch...

Thanks for keeping us informed.    It's not good customer service or backup of your product, and I'l be reluctant to buy Oxfords again when/if mine give up the ghost

Did they allocate blame?  Riding without gloves...  bike not garaged...  too old...  ??

Hi Rally,

The people at Oxford have ignored my email completely.  So I have just written again venting the spleen.

Likely won't do any good either but I like you must at least try.  I wear gloves 99.9% of the time and always have a cover over the bike while at work and always have it parked in a garage overnight.

It really seems like a compound thing to me.  I will update later with what happens.
