We have spent some time with family in Wyreema and then Chinchilla. Heading east tomorrow and spending about a week around the Gympie area.
-
We set up in Pomona and unloaded the ST yesterday in readiness for the Woodford RTE today. We rode the Mary Valley Link road, stopping at the lovely little township of Kenilworth for coffee, then through Maleny down the range to Landsborough then up the Peachester Range on to Woodford. I'm pretty sure Peter was attempting to wear out the tyre side walls through the twistys ++. On the return trip to the caravan we stopped in at Mary Cancross Park to take in the spectacular views over the Glasshouse Mts and across to the coast. With glorious weather, good food and great company it has been a thoroughly enjoyable day :thumbs

We are out of Carnarvon Gorge. What a stunning place to visit. The bush walks were amazing and yes we walked, hiked the 22km round trip in to Cathedral Cave and Big Bend. Some photos of Carnarvon and surrounds
-
After leaving Carnarvon we spent some time in Emerald visiting family, the gem fields, botanic gardens and Fairbairn Dam. From there we have headed back East to be in Rockhampton at the end of May. We are currently camped up at Bedford Weir just outside Blackwater. Today we had the opportunity to do a guided tour of the fully operational BMA coal mine at Blackwater, the largest open cut coal mine in the Southwrn Hemisphere. I even got to sit in the operators seat of one of their 3 draglines. What an awesome experience. Photos just do not do just to the sheer size of the machinery.

yes we walked, hiked the 22km round trip

It's been a little while since my last update. We have had an interesting few weeks exploring Rockhampton while staying with family relatives. We also left the ute and caravan with my cousin in Rocky while we rode the ST home for a weekend. Peter had an interview for the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast so we travelled south for that. Back in Rocky a week ago, planning to head north, but was delayed for a couple of days as I was struck down with " Bali belly "????? WOW:
On the road again now though and enjoying the sunshine in St Lawrence with a spot of fishing and their annual Wetlands festival, and then continuing north. We are currently in Sarina and will be in Mackay later this week.

We arrived to glorious sunshine in beautiful Mackay and met up with Scarlet and Thunderbolt for a coffee. Today we had the pleasure of their company again as they showed us some of the points of interest in this area and took us for a lovely bike ride to Cape Hillsborough and Seaforth. We sampled delightful scones at the Old Station Teahouse.

An afternoon of classic NQ winter sun... a more perfect day for getting out on our STeeds would be hard to find... so after meeting for lunch, we headed for The Eungella Chalet... it's not necessarily about the destination, but about the journey... perfect weather, open roads, brilliant views, great company.... all made for another remarkable day.

... thanks for bringing the OzSTOC Shop with you... if we don't see you again before you leave, enjoy the remainder of your trip and see you in October. All the Best, John and Kate.

The latest update is that we are at Atherton at the delightful spot right on the Barren River with platypus swimming amongst the reeds. We've had the bike out and about in Townsville where we rode up Mt Stuart and Castle Hill where the views were spectacular. Fortunately we also made it to the V8 Supercars last weekend. Then I made a quick dash home for a few days flying direct from Townsville to the new Wellcamp airport at Toowoomba and back. We also found some potential licence losing corners on Hervey Range Rd from Townsville out towards the Gregory Development Rd.
The bike is out again now and looking forward to exploring the Tablelands and the Gilles Highway into Cairns.
Photos will need to wait until another time as I'm experiencing some techno difficulties.

We are still at Atherton enjoying so many wonderful things to see and do in about a 100km radius. Headed inland a little off the beaten track today along the Burke Development Rd to Chillagoe a once thriving copper mining town. Absolutely amazing scenery in a seemingly harsh landscape. We visited Balancing Rock, Archway Caves and the historic remains of The Smelters. After washing down some dust at the pub heard about a unique Ford car collection just around the corner. Ford America offered Tom Prior sizable $$$$ for part of his collection but he said it was for his enjoyment and could not sell. What an amazing day.
