Title: ST1100 Light Mounts
Post by: alans1100 on June 01, 2017, 07:59:56 PM
A couple of months ago I given some lights mounts and rather than keep them white it was decided to change the colour.

I went over to the powder coaters in Port Pirie and was advised that their sand blaster wasn't up to the task and it was suggested I go to a place that does automotive work.

A place in Jamestown (a little closer) was found and a cost of $20 was given. Two weeks ago the mounts were collected and delivered to the powder coaters in Port Pirie and an estimated cost of $35 as I wanted a gloss finish. I would have preferred a blue but nothing close to the bike colour so black was chosen and I picked them up today; cost $30.

Not sure when to fit them yet and with a new speedo cable on order and some wiring to check out (left headlight) I might do the whole lot at once.

With another fine day in store for us I decided  to swap the light months over and put the new (for the bike) ones on.

This is the set up with some home made mounts that I bought from one of our members.

After removing the indicator/mirror housing there are two bolts that need a 10mm spanner/socket to undo them. These HID lights also have a nuts that need a 17mm spanner. Because of the space available on the thread I used two nuts as theft preventive measure.

After the old set was removed the new mount is placed on top of the mirror mounting location and it proved rather difficult (for me) to do on the bike so I put it all together on our car's cargo space floor.

Then back to the bike to tighten up the two bolts.

Add the driving light

and replace the mirror cover making sure the wiring doesn't get caught.

The left hand one was a little easier but I needed to play around with the wiring to get the cover to locate properly. Now that this is done I need to realign the lights; hope it's not cool what ever evening it is when I do this
