Title: Photobucket Takes Your Images Hostage
Post by: alans1100 on July 02, 2017, 01:24:31 PM
I made this post yesterday about Photobucket. http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=12055.msg1222270#msg1222270 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=12055.msg1222270#msg1222270)

This will effect some of us here; especially those who use the IMG code to link pictures onto this and other forums. They now want to charge us $US39.99 a month or $US399 a year to do this.

Several other news sites confirming this

A lot of sites take your photos hostage.. its hard to keep track of them... I've used Zenfolio which was good, but couldn't justify the upkeep, and Flickr, and I've also used 500px, but refuse to pay now... Google has now shut down its photo storage, and I think Google+ is losing ground too... not sure what's left, but you really have to read the fine print carefully... Facebook ?

I went to Flickr as I could sign in with my Yahoo email address and I've only updated my last three or four posts with new links. Anything prior I will update with new links on an as needed basis; one only has to ask.

Must be why I can't see any content when there is a photobucket link, like in Kev Murphy's older jokes posts

I only just quoted one of those and that showed.  I think it hasn't spread to all users just yet.

My Photobucket pics are still safe, for now.

I've been paying 'em around $3/month for around 18 months now, since I went over their free limit. For $3, I can go to around 30GB, I'm currently at 10GB.  That's around 7,000 pics and a few videos.  If I purge a few hundred duplicates, I'll probably be okay for another 10 years, or until the monthly fee is upped too far.

PS. Testing the pic was also a good opportunity to show off the Mighty ST.

For $3, do they allow you to upload full size images, and are only JPegs allowed ?

Full size images are okay.  PNG and videos, probably others too, are okay.
