Title: 2018 NatRally Location - NOW RELEASED -
Post by: ST2UP on August 14, 2017, 01:53:36 PM
Along with the acting NatRally Co-Ordinator (Sicman) We rode to the warmth of Queensland's North recently and spent the weekend with some of the team who have put together the National Rally proposal for their region.

We visited a number of Venues that are part of the proposal and can confirm this location will produce a sensational rally for the attendees.

So start planing OzSTOCer's for National Rally on the 10-12 August 2018.....

Looking forward to NR2018 attendees getting a taste of what NQ has to offer... If you're coming this far, take a few extra days to explore and enjoy the tropics. Cheers, John & Kate.
p.s. around the fishn'ships table... Scarlett Thunderbolts (Kate & John) , DBfives (Jill & David), ST2UP & Pockey (Chris & Jean)... and taking the groupie - Sicman (Tony).... unseen in the pix - 1000 seagulls... mine, mine, mine...

Would love to stay but Theresa can't get time off work.
The only real question is which way I ride home?

2400 km from home so maybe 3 or 4 nights on the road.

Hopefully I get more work at Viterra (medical in 2 weeks time) and I can get some cash put away for the trip

hey fellow OzSTOCers… at this early stage of organising a really Kung-Fu great NR2018, we’re wondering if there would be anyone interested in going on a one-day reef fishing charter… going out possibly the Thursday before, or the Monday following, the NR2018… would need a minimum of four… ballpark guess: $250 - $400 per person for the day… if there’s enough interest we’ll start another thread.. if not, we’ll drop it… copy this and add your name… Cheers, John & Kate.

Out of pure interest I turned on the sat nav and inputted shortest route to Mackay and I get a one that's 200km shorter than Google.

https://goo.gl/maps/PMpvjbXGFg12

Google gave me a couple options but not the shortest https://goo.gl/maps/SRaLy7RJodp so if it works out that I can actually get to a rally I'll use one of Googles on the return leg.

Alan, you might check whether the Dawson Development Rd from Tambo to Clermont is sealed.

Thanks.
Generally my little TomTom gives me a route avoiding dirt roads as that is a setting I chose. If a dirt road is unavoidable then a warning will come up and I can either accept it or find another longer way. Sometimes though it tells me to avoid a road that has been sealed because the status has been changed.

With all that being said I use Google to plan the route and check on the roads, fuel stops, things to see and places to free camp along the way.

Found these maps showing QLD roads - moved them over to my Google Drive. Got fed up with my sat nav directing me down roads that were only partially sealed when I checked them later on Google Earth.

Hey STroppy and STimpy (... and everyone), In a word - Yes, we have made some arrangements, but there are still too many other things to be sorted as well for it to annouced just yet. Suffice to say it will not be an expensive cab fare from the park out to the Mackay Marina, to join the fishing charter. Cheers, see you at Wooli. John & Kate.

Hey Alan and other fellow OzSTOC route planners,
In planning your route to NR2018 Mackay, be aware that tropical cyclone Debbie all but destroyed the Sarina Range, and will be unlikely to be usable any day soon, if ever...

...so, if travelling north up the Bruce Hwy (or sometimes referred to as the A1), do not use the old Bruce Hwy which goes inland from Marlborough...

...or if coming in from the west along the Peak Downs Hwy (Hwy 70), do not bypass Nebo and all will be good - no dirt...

... please post any queries about this end of the route and we will do our best to help you out...

... we also have plenty of info on other great things to see, do and ride, while you're up in our patch... so if you can, add a few extra days to your plans. Cheers, John & Kate

We will have land cruiser and caravan so would be able to transport some in the car to the marina.
