Title: felt like going for a ride.
Post by: Shaun on April 07, 2012, 03:42:02 PM
So it's the holidays and I find myself sans-kids.

What else to do but pack some camping gear into the bike and set off.

Ridden from Sydney and have pitched my tent in Tenterfield (where else to pitch a tent?).

Took a slightly askew route. Turned left off the pacific highway at Port Macquarie to make use of the gloriously twisty Oxley Highway between Wauchope and Walcha. Then jumped onto the New England all the way up to here. Great weather and great fun.

Tomorrow I will be continuing north through Warwick, up through Toowoomba and then across through Blackbutt to my old stomping ground, the Sunshine Coast.

From there, who knows. I have a tent and a bike, what else does one need?

Cheers, Shaun

May do, may do.

I have just arrived in Toowoomba and pondering important issues like lunch. The night was comfy, my nice new airbed had a hole in it so I had to buy another in Tenterfield, so I am now on the hunt for a Big W to convince some pimply teen to take it back and organise for me to pick up the replacement in Sydney.

The doggie is my little companion. Comes everywhere with me.

Now to find some tucker.

Cheers, Shaun

Like the opposite of most intrepid explorers, I was drawn east. I hit the east side of Bribie Island just in time to watch a stunning moonrise over the water, amidst some streaky stratus clouds and the rhythmic blinking of the green starboard running lights of the cargo ships queued out to sea en-route to Brisvegas.

My ST gets lots of attention at lights and rest stops. Aren't there any in Queensland? :)

For those interested, Mars is in the sky around 30 degrees north rotated from the moon's current position.

I was very kindly put up by Mr and Mrs Diesel. Their big dog tried to eat my dog, but to be fair, my dog tried to eat him as well.

Diesel took me out this morning for a lovely ride out behind the glasshouse mountains. He is right about the roads, they are fantastic up there.

I went from there to Mooloolaba and chilled on the beach.

Now on my way down towards Byron.

Sitting in a cafe at Byron, wondering where all the hippies went and where these thousands of people have all come from. All my favourite cafe's are gone, the First Sun holiday park charges $64 for an unpowered patch of grass and there all these pasty white English folk around the place.

Still the same old beach though. Love this place.

Tomorrow will see me continuing down probably as far as Scotts Head, depending on my backside.

Only hiccups so far have been a blown accessories fuse (faulty double adaptor I am guessing) and the bike deciding to tip over on a slight sideways slope. Diesel was kind enough to assist me in picking it up. Low profile tyres look nice, but they do mean I have to hunt carefully for where I try to put the stand down.

Till tomorrow.

One is overboard?

You probably saw the Arsenal stickers, and there is no such thing as overboard for those.

Ah, I am quite fond of Liverpool also. Wheels have fallen off a bit this half of the season though.

Just as long as you aren't in with that Manchester lot or the Sp*rs.

Headed off from Byron this morning.

Stopped off in a few places, including New Italy, on the Pacific Highway.

(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7063/7063856697_2520b8b243.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/77411627@N02/7063856697/)

Weather started to turn slightly inclement the further south I went. I almost got to my destination for the evening. I stopped over to get some fuel, and then the bike wouldn't start again. The immoboliser wasn't responding to the remote. The bike is in a shed at the fuel station for the night while I stay at my folks place.

Serves me right for saying that nothing had really gone wrong on the trip :P

Couch, I understand him, so that must make him an Aussie, right?

Cheers, Shaun

Rode through the nasty weather and have finally made it back home. More later, have to ship a kid to soccer training.

Ok reality check dealt with (almost, got dinner to cook still!)

Still not sure what was the issue with the immobiliser. The kady staffing the petrol station I ended up being stranded at was kind enough to let me house the bike in the back garage of the station. Very nice of her. If you do get a chance to, please pop in and give her your business if you find yourself passing by the Lakes Way exit heading south on the Pacific Highway just south of Taree and are in need of a little fuel or refreshment. It is called Rainbow Flat Petrol Station.

I went back the next morning and the remote turned off the immobiliser with no problem at all. The owner remarked that she was also having some trouble getting her car to respond to her remote too, so maybe it was just a weird atmospheric thing or some EM noise.

Anyway, got packed up and did the whole trip back to Sydney in one hit without stops, lest I find myself without a starting bike again. Will investigate further tomorrow but now happy to be back and washed and ready to serve some tea to the little snotlings I missed so much.

Cheers, Shaun.

PS, I have lilly white legs too  :runyay
