Beautiful day for a ride yesterday, went to Northam for coffee, on the way home due to my lack of attention I ran off the road, unable to touch brake and disengage MCcruise, set at 110kph, I had to try to ride it out, I collected a guide post with left tip over bar, went around second post and started to come back onto the road, however I failed to miss a third post after 50 metres all up, this stuffed every thing up.
The only damage to me was abrasions to my lower legs caused by kevlar in the Draggin jeans, how lucky I am.

Oh Yorkie!!! :eek
Of course we are all relieved to hear a brother is able to get away with as little as possible problems. Sounds like your skill saved an even worse situation - kudos to you mate. :-++
Now you have a few fun filled weekends sourcing parts and refitting them to the lovely 11. :thumb
Cheers
-
Ouch I feel sorry for the poor bike but at least you live to ride another day. :well :well :well
-
I think you need a refund on the coffee at "The River's Edge". It must have been decaffeinated!
So glad you came off relatively unscathed. Still plenty of bikes in the shed!!
-
Glad you're okay.
-
Bikes can be replaced people can not. Glad you came out in one piece. Time to get the lotto ticket
-
Glad you excaped relatively unscathed. Sad about bike but it sounds like you saved yourself from a worse result.
-
Yorkie, thank goodness you're ok.
When I dropped my RED ST1300 on the Pacific Highway at 100 kph I had the good sense to do it in the pouring rain enabling me to slide with no damage to me and very little to my jeans and jacket.
My bike was written off and it looked in a similar condition to that of yours, perhaps a smidgen more damaged.
-
The scrapes werent caused by the kevlar, they saved you from serious damage. If you were wearing ordinary jeans you would be missing a lot of skin and a pair of pants.
Glad you arent too hurt apart from pride. Hope you have spare bits to repair the bike.
-
:eek
Scary stuff indeed.
Busy admiring the scenery?
Glad you're OK.

Good grief mate! That's terrible! The bike is in a very sorry state- lucky she's got you to rebuild her.
I hope your grazes heal well. A testimony to the effectiveness of kevlar jeans. You reckon you were still doing 100 when you went down? It looks like the front was locked up before the third post.
Lessons there for all of us- inattention can have grievous consequences. A micro-sleep will have the same effect. Getting back off the gravel requires a real effort. That's the trouble with these long straight roads- they lull you into traps. Good thing the road builders use those plastic posts these days. There was a time when they were like fence posts.
-
:eek >:()
I'm glad to hear that you managed to come out of it so unscathed, you even managed to almost ride through it.
All the best mate
Cheers
Shiney
-
I did not suffer your end result but had the same experience 7yrs ago on my S10 on the way to Broken Hill....2 days later had a sleep study done and found out I had obstructive sleep apnea...had a CPAP machine every night since and have never come close to a micro sleep since....heal well
-
Not what one wants to hear about but at least your here to tell us.
-
Thanks Guys ++
i had come over a hill and skydivers were descending directly in front, negotiated an S bend and bridge then glanced at them again, thinking they are a distraction to drivers, when I looked back it was when the front wheel was leaving the bitumen, calculate that at 110 I was covering 18 mts per second.
The post which bought me unstuck was the last one for 100 metres
Shannons insured it for $7600 agreed value, I won't be rebuilding it, plenty out there and also have a couple more bikes in the shed but I have been told there will not be coffee next wednesday for me unless it is at home
Jeans and Bikers Gear jacket only have dirt, otherwise unmarked, a few scratches on the Shark helmet
It is amazing how the mind works in such situations, while tumbling down the road all i could think about was where is the bike because I didn't want to collide with it, not that I had any control
-
Like Yorkie, my biggest worry was having he bike tumble on top of me. It was dark, raining and I had no idea where the bike was in relation to my position.
My Shoei helmet bounced twice on the bitumen, hardly a scratch, but more importantly my head was well cushioned, not even a headache afterwards.
A following driver who witnessed my off said he missed me when I came to rest by a poofteenth (is that a valid measurement now considering EIEIO restrictions)?
-
Glad you're OK Yorkie ++
Will you be back on another :dred11 or will their be a :13Candy in the shed ?
-
Any crash you walk away from is a good one Yorkie, happy to hear you're OK.
:grin :blk13 :grin

Yep- with that insurance cover I wouldn't be rebuilding it- you can get a good one for that money.
"Funny" how the Domestic Government make these rules...
The bike must have done a few somersaults to be bashed up all over the way it is. Definitely a worry when you are wondering where it's going to land in respect to you. How far apart were you when it all stopped?
-
So sorry to hear of your "off" Yorkie, and I'm pleased to hear that it was one that you walked away from.
-
We are glad to hear you are mostly OK mate......thanks for sharing your experience mate it can happen to us all :-++
Wear the best gear you can afford ......and hope never to prove its worth :like
:beer
-
Biggles, when I landed the bike was at my feet, both at 90 degrees to the road, me in far lane and bike on centre line.
If I had not held it until I started back towards the bitumen I would have gone into the trees, any ones guess how that would have ended up.
Shannons had it taken away today, sad day but we had some good times, will I get another?, probably not as it was getting too heavy for me, maybe a 1200RT, 60kg lighter, time will tell, for now the GL1000 and CB750 will get used a bit more.
-
Thanks Yorkie. It sounds like you survived in the best possible way.
I found an RT in WA in your price range for you:

Email from Shannons today, it is a write off and money will be in my account with in 3 working days

How is the gravel rash healing?

That's a testimony to their integrity.
The next test will be your premiums and excess on your next bike. I had a minor claim on Youi that was four times my excess, with no increase in either on renewal.

No gravel rash Lindsay, only kevlar rash and that has healed well.
According to shannons my 65% no claim bonus is protected for life, I have 3 other bikes insured with them and I have a meeting with the state manager tomorrow on another matter.
-
Good news mate, it sounds like things are going as well as possible :thumbsup

Both very good news.

It was confirmed this morning that Shannons will honor my life time no claim bonus
-
Goodness gracious Yorky.
So glad you are ok. I need to check OZSToc more often. Pleased you have insurance that will keep you on the road and that you have little to heal.
I'll bring coffee with me on my next trip to York.

Shannon's have paid me out the insured value, $7,600 and a voucher for replacement helmet, I was offered the bike for $800 but knocked it back, will go to the auction and see what happens there.

Good to hear they have paid :thumbsup and good luck with the auction :thumbs

My ST is up for auction at Manhiems, Perth Airport, 1030am Friday 2nd Feb for those who may be interested

Reckon you'd buy it for parts yourself?
-
Shannons offered it to me for $800, it is of no use to me as I don't plan on purchasing another although it has mccruise, alarm/immobiliser fitted, rubber as done 4k, here is the link

The MC Cruise is worth $1000, but would only on-sell for $500. Tyres might fetch $300, so it's a break-even for a buyer if they got it for $800.
Agreed it's no use to you if you're not getting another one. There's not much you could use on an ST1300... :whistle
It is, however, one of the rare 6 speed models, I see on the auctioneer's description. :eek
-
Cost to install a 6th gear was over the top
-
Those photos are a sad sight. She was a beautiful bike :'(

They sure lose their glamour when they lay on their side on a pallet, covered in dust with bad scars.
-
Thanks Wendy, it was a sad loss.
The reason it is on a pallet is still in "6"th gear and the clutch lever is only 30mm long now, I guess nobody bothered to try to take it out of gear, easier to put on a pallet
-
A quick flick up with the gear lever, and it should pop in to neutral.

Not from 6th (or even 5th). Only from 1st (unless they're different being on the opposite side of the continent).
All that aside, the bodysnatchers in the auction house wouldn't make any attempt to improve the lot of a sad wreck (unless it was a Mustang or equivalent that they coveted).
(And that's me used up my week's supply of parenthetical observations.)
-
The auction was at 10:30, I logged in at 10:27 and it was already sold

Ow much did they get for it?
-
no idea, that is why I logged into the auction, another 1100 written off today on a far ride, rider in hospital with concussion, sharp bend with gravel over the road.

Sad for sure, watched him come through the corner and dissapear into the bush
Thank god he is still alive to tell the tale......
