Title: Possible new SA motorbike laws
Post by: Langers on February 02, 2018, 09:02:01 PM
Most of you would be aware there is an SA election looming. The Pollies are out there trying to score as many points with the electorate as they can, and bugger the facts, let's go on emotion.
In the last year we had a pretty ordinary road toll regards motorcyclists so the pollies reckon they need to do something about it - seems reasonable. So what is the current Government suggesting - Increase the age you can apply for your motorbike learners from 16 to 18 (and would I be considered cynical if I pointed out this was a demographic which couldn't vote?), wear hi-viz (sadly car drivers generally don't see anything other than something bigger than what they are driving) and a number of other generally ineffectual requirements.
Nothing about cracking down on drivers who are incapable of ignoring their phones and other electronic devices, nothing about improving the road surfaces being destroyed by bigger and bigger transports on the road. Unfortunately in SA we are not big enough to have a business like Stay Upright (although our Govt seems to have enough money to pay Harley Davidson $500,000p.a. to keep CastAlloy open - until next year whenit will close with the loss of a couple of hundred jobs) for rider training to improve rider skills.
Sorry for the rant but I just had to vent after reading yesterday's local rag.
Cheers ... Mark

sadly car drivers generally don't see anything other than something bigger than what they are driving

Sometimes they don't even see a bus... had one u-turn right in front of me the week before last.
