Title: Florida School Shooting
Post by: StinkyPete on February 16, 2018, 06:26:05 AM
I am deeply saddened by another school massacre in the USA.   What is wrong with their society that such things happen so regularly and I heard on the news this morning that this is around the 29th school shooting in the USA this year, and it's only February.    The dead and wounded are not the only victims, and my thoughts always turn to the teams of CSI's who will spend days recording and reconstructing events, at post mortems on children, and months of follow up investigation.   Their lives will be forever impacted by the work that they do to keep us safe and ensure perpetrators are locked up.    Gun control is not the complete answer, but it's a start.

I think it's a little over the top to have all the CSI involvement and an autopsy when the cause of death was a bullet - it's not rocket science.

As for the gun control issue - it won't happen over there.

The right to bear up arms was enshrined into their constitution at a time when the threat from war from the British empire. Having the people defend themselves in time of an invasion makes sense but times have changed and getting the constitution changed is impossible. We never had that right which is why it was so easy for the govt. to have the gun buy back scheme a few years back.

These events are just collateral damage in the delusional quest to protect against all odds, the "Second Amendment"!

The Second Amendment is a Sacred Cow that will never be touched. It's the definition of "Insanity"!

Ironically, amendment means  a change was already made.

Sadly, it's a legal necessity and a standard part of a proper and full investigation.

Pete is spot on (as always). What I don't get is it being ok to purchase assault rifles. They are made to kill humans, not bear or moose or any number of other critters we don't have which can pose a threat to human life in the States and justify the purchase of a firearm. (Mind you our salties in Northern Australia are pretty good killing machines but if you are half smart they shouldn't cause a problem (which doesn't mean I think they shouldn't be hunted - but with a repeater not an assault rifle)). I also don't get that it's ok to purchase seriously nasty ammunition. Nor do I get that an innocent woman who calls the police because she believes another person is under threat can be shot by the police and the consequences are insignificant compared to the death of the woman.
All of these imponderables probably explain why I just want to get on my bike and ride.

The 2nd Amendment as ratified by all the states and the President reads:

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." *the emphasis is mine.

If only the gun owners in the US were party of a well regulated militia.

If you need a gun to feel safe, you are living in the wrong country.

If you need a gun to protect your family, you are living in the wrong country.

I can't understand why anyone other than a soldier needs a weapon of war.
