I love it and wish I had discovered it sooner. It didn't skip a beat for my four state trip last year. I have used it ever since.

The subscription isn't cheap, but it's the best of the bunch. It can take a few tries to get it set up, so experiment before you want to use it for a trip.
Just for the record, the SPOT device is supplied and supported by "Findmespot", and their primary emphasis is SAR. Spotwalla is a voluntary private website that does better tracking for the internet and stores your trips indefinitely. Jason Jonas gets no money from SPOT and depends on donations to keep his site going.

Mine works perfectly I think.

As stated everywhere- you're set while ever you have phone coverage. At least it beats paying SPOT a small fortune in US$.

When there's no coverage it stores the points on your device and uploads them when you come into service again. I noticed this between Cunnamulla and Saint George last year.

:dred11 , I really am a spud .
I was pumped to say the least for this adventure . Geared up early , pushed the Big Honda out of the garage and warmed her up in the drive which usually takes about 5 . Any longer than that risks waking a fire breathing dragon who loves sleeping in on her days off :spank
I tried to activate a spotwalla trip , but to my dismay kept on picking up google maps on my ph . Is tis what happens ?
After 45 minutes in the driveway way with the bike idling and a touch of swearing and a impending divorce , i gave up and rode away which turned out to be a 751km epic ride .
Any tips on spotwalla process would be greatly appreciated for me by my wife :thumb

I must admit it took me many attempts before getting it to work. What device are you using for it? For me, I have Bubbler Pro on a galaxy tablet with a data sim card in it. It turned out my failed attempts were because Bubbler doesn't like the letter ø (live a critic, diacritic) but Jason changed my setting to a simple o and it worked perfect after that. That was just before setting out on the trip above it recorded everything. I was out of telstra reception between Cunnamulla and Bollon (rural Queensland) so didn't update in real time but flawlessly added those points once a connection to telstra was made. My mate in Brisbane was watching my progress and he said I had stopped for a couple of hours about twenty klicks east of Cunnamulla and he was worried I had broken down/flat or something before it suddenly updated and I was near St George.

Do you have bubbler or bubbler pro? (assuming it's and android).
-
no and yes

Somewhere on here, I've posted screen shots and description of the steps I took to get Bubbler/Bubbler Pro to with with SpotWalla.
I think it was in answer to someone else having problems.
I'll see if I can find it.
Here it is, it was in answer to Bodø's issues.

no and yes
If that's no to bubbler and yes to android the lack of bubbler is the problem. That's the app that stores and sends the data to Spotwalla.

Yours (and everyone else's) help was greatly appreciated.

As Bodø said it's two parts to getting Spotwalla to work.
Spotwalla supports several GPS/Satellite devices such as Spot and it supports applications on phones on Apple and Android.
The Android app Bubbler (free or pro) uses the GPS receiver in you phone to locate where you are how fast your going etc, stores it temporarily on your phone and uploads the data to Spotwalla.
Bubbler has a second screen you can send status messages. Tap the green and yellow Bubbler location icon on the main screen

I hope you get it sorted soon.
Friends and family can monitor Spotwalla and know you're safe or need help and where you are.

MY experience with riding in the west has shown two things. For general coverage to show family and friends where you are, Bubbler is great but it must be remembered that when there is no phone coverage it will not track until it receives the next signal. If you go offroad or in remote areas then this is the majority of cases. Telstra or their network has been the best so a sim card using that is the best. Providers such as Aldi I think uses the network or any of the cheapest can be used.
I have had two accidents or incidents that the bubbler coverage would not have been sufficient. After the first, where a truck driver perished in the heat on a remote station and I was the last to talk to him, I purchased a Spot and stopped using bubbler. A few months back I was involved with a fellow riders accident and used the Spot SOS. We had very little phone coverage but had an ambulance and police to us in 45 minutes. We were only about 50 kms from Mandjimup in the South West.
I do not wish to tell everybody to use a Spot device or other personal beacon, but there is a time and place to consider all events that may occur, especially riding at night, on your own, in blackspot terrain
If in doubt ride slow and safe :grin

Cheers Wombat,
Real life examples of very good reasons to use Spot in even slightly remote areas.

Excellent testimonial. Your's is the first account I've read of someone in Oz using the SOS, but the SPOT website says that as of today they have been instrumental in 5997 rescues worldwide. That's food for thought for those of us who like to get out of town occasionally.
-
When I got mine, the scuttlebutt was that since it was a private EPIRB, any costs of rescue would be charged to the owner of the SPOT. Hence one of the products that SPOT sell is insurance to cover the cost of any rescue. I rang the signals group in Canberra? who would receive any SOS request from SPOT, and they told me quite emphatically that there would be no charge against anyone who activates a SPOT device when in need of assistance.
I had previously used Bubbler, but a week in Tassie without any Vodaphone network phone service rendered it quite useless.
