Title: Avoiding The Bend
Post by: on August 25, 2018, 06:33:16 PM
Today I had planned on a ride to Mannum and more than likely would have returned via Tailem Bend before learning of a motor sport event being held at the latter so ended up going to other direction.  The days started with a bit of plane spotting at the back of the airport.  No idea what this tyre was doing there.

My next port of call was South Australia's Saint Kilda.  Strangely enough it was my first ever visit on two wheels.  I had been there once before with my wife and son when we still pushed him around in a stoller (approxinately a decade ago).

All the places I visited today I had done on the firenze in the reverse order when I knew the firenze was dying and going to be replaced,  ie. lots of dirt roads so thought have some fun.  That said, these dirt roads are smoother than some of our asphalt ones.  This rather nice area is Port Gawler, but somewhat spoiled by moppets who dump their rubbish there and the remnants of burnt out tyres.

Middle Beach does look somewhat similar.

This international bird national park (something along those lines) goes for miles and would be a nice walk, although I wouldn't be too keen on leaving my vehicle unattended in the southern areas of it for that long.  This end at Thompson Beach had houses in the vicinity.

I saw quite a few of these contraptions today.  I don't recall ever seeing them before.  This one was at Port Parham.

I thought driving unlicensed or unregistered was an offence everywhere, not just Webb Beach

Whilst I was at Webb Beach I took the gopro off the bike and used a magnetic clamp to stick it to the guard rails and signs to get a couple of shots of me actually riding my bike (something I have been meaning to do but never actually got around to).

I think it's my first trip that I have actually completed on one tank of fuel, no I tell a lie... the Birdwood RTE also was a short one.

I love that machine!  How clever!

Looks like a really interesting route.  A bit of fun there, photographing yourself.

The first one I saw didn't have a trailer attached to that and on angle where I couldn't see the tow bar and I thought "what the ... is that?" but I would go on to see quite a few of these.

I remember St Kilda being where the local tip (landfill) was for the Salisbury council in the mid 1960s.

Sometimes we'd go over there do get some crabs on the tidal flats.

The now rare tip crabs that have been pushed out by the blue swimmer crabs?  :whistle
