Let's see how many years you've had a thumper between your legs! (You KNOW what I mean!)
I'm not talking the first time Uncle Trev let you have a go on the chook chaser at the farm, more like when you first made the decision to have two wheels as part of your transport or leisure good n proper - you'll NEVER forget bringing that first bike home.
Also - don't worry if there was a break where you didn't have a sickle - count from the first bike.
Let's see the collective experience here.

This kind of survey sucks.
What about how long have you continually been riding a bike. Not this crap that I once sat on one when I was ten and 40 years later brought one for my fiftieth birthday, so I have been riding for forty years. If you don't ask how long continually theirs no point.
I have been riding 6 days out of 7, rain, hail, snow, on the road licensed since July 1974, and first got on a bike of my own around 1968, an old Excelsior with pedals

Come on Diesel we need another level of 40 plus. I resurrected my brothers 1948 98CC James (which he had given up on as a basket case) well before I got my license on my 17th birthday. Starting from getting my license, over the last 43 years I think there has only two periods, each of about one year, when I didn't own a bike. But I must admit to not riding a lot of kms since the early days. Hopefully retirement will now allow me to rectify this and the ST will start to see a lot of kms over the next few years.

Yeeeoouch! I thought I addressed that with the 'Uncle Trev' bit. Besdes, ain't like there's sheep stations on it - just some fun.
If I open all these polls up to such detail, they become a survey and not a fun poll. You got the chance to have your say thanks to the reminder John Meara gave us leading up to Sensus night regarding your actual mode of transport.
And just for the record, it's not like any by-laws will be changed because of the results of THIS poll - so enjoy!

Licence in 1976. Have always had a bike registered since then, still have the last one I bought in 1980 ready for a bit of TLC.
-
Got my first bike, Triumph Speed Twin 500cc, aged 17years in 1957...........but unfortunately it was shortlived, I was picked up by the law for riding without a licence, and carrying a pillion as well and finished up getting rid of the bike! Then I came to an age where it became more important to be able to take a lovely lady (or two) to the drive in movies, so cars became my mode of transport. I rode a few off road bikes over the years and then rode competition trials for a couple of years, However I didn't get my open licence until 2006, so really haven't been riding on the road very long at all. I clocked up about 10,000kls on my Yamaha V-Star 1100 and about 16,500kls so far on my present STeed.

Going by the poll, there's more old pharts in here than you young'ns.
On and off I've been riding for the past 46 years. Some of the offs were exceptionally painful, let me tell ya ;D

Been lucky? Never had a painful one.
Gone down at 230kays +. Puncture front wheel, had a tube in it????? (Scratch on the finger)
Gone down at 10 kays and hour. Oil all over the round about (3 Broken vertebrae in the neck)
Hit buy a truck that did a U turn in front of me (Compression damage to my chest, severe bruising left leg)
But been so lucky, never had much pain

Started riding on the farm at 5 years old, rode non stop (almost) untill I got my licence in 1985, then rode for a further 7 years, had a break with family until 3 years ago. now it will take a pine box or BBQ to stop me. :13Candy

Riding for 13 years, but it's only been the last 2 years where the bike has been my main form of transport.

I can't recall the first year I got my licence but it was around the time I was 22/23 in 1977/78 when I bought a Honda CB175. I had that for about a year and it wasn't really until 1990 that I've had a bike of one sort or another 'til now. I bought my 1100A in May 2006 and I don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. Mind you, I was tempted while getting the tyres done at Rockingham Power Sport back in April 2009. While I was waiting I looked at a used grey 1300A though I called it black.

I think you need to redo this poll and add a 40+ option.
-
First year at Uni was 1977. So that means I spend quite a few years on rearly retirement riding around, perhaps visiting Streak still at work for the next 20 years...

21 Years for me :runyay

42 years currently doing 35 to 40k a year

March, 2014 I will have had my mc licence 4 40 years. Over those 40yrs I have actually owned and ridden various mc's for 10yrs. I got my 1st licence on a mc in 1974 and a cage licence the same year.
Cupla years ago I disputed a speed camera offence in a 60 zone and won. The then RTA records showed that I have had no driving offences recorded in NSW since 1976, (however I cheated coz I lived in the banana republic of Qld 4 12 yrs).
The other way I cheated was 2 work from home for 25 yrs as a software developer and transmitted most of my work by telecomms. Very little need 2 travel and then usually by plane. Reckon I might have one of the lowest working kms/year in Aussie and that probably explains my low infringement record more than anything else, (other than being a very safety-conscious rider/driver of course!).

Been riding for 31years for me.
Only a weekend warrior now as I still have a full time job to attend to.
Yep, a bloody rude interruption to my social life this work thing.

Couch and I fall into the 45+ category.
Any others?
