Apologies if there is already a thread on this (couldn't find one in search).
I'm wondering if folks would like to share info regarding mechanics that they have come to respect and trust in the Brisbane area.
And also any that they wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole.
Myself I've been using one at Brendale with mixed feelings. The main man seems great but he seems to be plagued by underling problems, so I'm looking around.

He is the cheapest around and is very good, the only downside is he dosent have the computer to do diagnostics.

The Windsor store of Brisbane Motorcycles do the servicing of the Police ST's so they are very familiar with our bikes and issues that may arise.
These guys are more expensive then Des but they do have the computer to do diagnostics.

I went to Des last year as a one-off, but it was only a minor service. He seemed very professional and meticulous but I did wonder how he would go at diagnosing weird problems without the fancy gear.
Brisbane Motorcycles sounds familiar. I think Biggles has spoken well of them.
Right now I have a weird thing going on with STrudel whereby he 'sometimes' idles horribly for the first 15 minutes. The 'sometimes' is the awkward bit because its hard to guess at a problem that isn't presenting. It has become more frequent recently though, and lately when I start him in the morning it's a 50/50 chance that the problem will show itself.

I was told by Toowoomba Honda that the ST1300 have a sealed unit so can't be hooked up for diagnostics

Brisbane Motorcycles have done all of my servicing since 2007 except for one year where I left it a bit late leading into Christmas and they couldn't fit me in so I went to a Yamaha dealer close by. Since I moved 'a little further north', I take it to the Caboolture branch. I even buy my tyres through them as I have found them to be competitive although I will give DOT a crack next time. (Dave Oliver Tyres, Clontarf) I've taken my son's bike there and it is the most immaculate tyre shop I have ever seen.

I've used both the Windsor and Caboolture stores of Brisbane Motorcycles without drama and also found them good on tyre price.
Windsor even rebuilt my ST1300 after I dropped it on the Gateway. Came out looking like new.
Team Moto at Virginia were also good. Nice clean professional looking workshop. Although, when they fitted the Stebel Airhorn, they ignored the supplied 20 Amp relay and fuse. :fp

Yes, I'm a big fan of Brisbane Motorcycles at Windsor.
As for the diagnostics- I'm not sure what "sealed unit" means, but there is a multi-pin plug under the rear right of the pillion seat (and it's a mongrel to locate, being bound up in the harness) which is the diagnostics plug. I use it for my Gear Indicator Display.
I get my tyres from Simon at Northside Motorcycle Workshop. He's cheaper than Brisbane M/C. I haven't had any mechanical work done by him. He's a one-man show even though he has two bike ramps. A very likeable fellow whose wife runs the adjoining accessories shop and who has also been helpful to me.
So I'd say, on the basis of the experiences here, Des Roberts is handy and cheaper and fine if you get the boss on the spanner, but if you're prepared to ride nearly all the way into the city, Brisbane M/C is to be preferred.

Biggles what they told me when I got my first 2002 ST1300 serviced that you can not hook it up to a computer and check or alter anything not like the new cars and bikes, mapping when you change exhausts ect. You would have to fit a power commander or something similar. I am not a mechanic so don't know much about these things. Just an ST1300 pilot :fp

That is partially correct :think1
As you were told, The Fuel Mapping Software is not able to be changed or altered... however the bike can be plugged in to run diagnostics :thumbsup

yep, that's the way I understand it too.
I wanted to fiddle with the tuning of STrudel to smooth out the rough low-throttle response, and the universal response was "cant do it with the Honda ECU". I had a Bazzaz ZFI installed to facilitate the engine tuning.
