Title: Bestem pannier liners
Post by: CallMeSteve on July 09, 2019, 04:43:18 PM
Gday all,

Looking at getting a pair of these for our next trip away.  I see they are available in a regular size which leaves the 'lid' space free,  and a wide size which fills the entire pannier.

Not wanting to give myself a case of buyer's remorse,  what's the general opinion on regular vs wide from those who have them ?

Thanks,
STrudel's Dad.

G'day mate,
I use the wide size and find them to be good.
The only thing to remember when using them that they are shaped to the exact size of the inside of the pannier
(If they are over filled they will put strain on the hinges of the pannier lid)

To help with this I use space saver/vacuum seal bags for clothes.

Hope this helps :thumbsup

Cheers
Shiney

I have the large liners as well gives the option to half fill them and use the lid space for other items

The best thing about the panniers is at you can take them off the bike lay them on there back on the ground and sit/jump on the lid to get them closed   It's fun watching Navgirl perform this maneuver

Thanks Shiney and PC. That’s very helpful. I’ll get a set of the wide ones. Is Navgirl available for hire for those occasions when we have over-packed?

I can ask for you but from experience I would suggest that the cost  would blow the budget to sh*t  |-i

I have the large liners also. I agree that you can choose to half fill if you have other things you want in your pannier.

Not sure if my pannier liner is a Bestem or what.  I use to have a pair, but one was in the LH pannier box when it departed the ST.   This resulted in me only having a RH liner, which I now use in the LH pannier.   Not sure about packing 'em so tight that some one, even a slip of a lass like Navgirl, needs to sit / jump on it to close it.

After the pannier departure episode the panniersnow generally stay on the ST, getting them on and off I find a bit tiresome.  And worrying, because I now have to check 'em, and check 'em again each time I put 'em back on.  Even then, riding down the road I think, "Have I checked?", so I stop and then do another check.

Yes, tiresome.  I'm told it will get better with age.

Ha!!

There's a simple trick to set your mind at rest.  As you settle the pannier in by the tried and true science of "jiggle", have a look at the front-inside-bottom and note that the V in the plastic is seated over the metal frame.  If the top locking lever goes down without force and you give them another jiggle, it's on safe and sound.  If you're still unsure, a look from the rear should show them symmetrical with evenly spaced gaps.
A good lift of the top box, front and back, will cover your insecurities in that region.
I'll put my hand up to having learned both those tricks the hard way.     :-[
