Unforunately Marissa and I can't make this one, (the lunch and beverage menu has my mouth watering already :eat and I know I'm going to regret missing this one!) :fp.
We're heading up to Rainbow beach camping for the weekend. We hope everyone has a great time at Tipsy's place (that's a given I know), and I hope it puts a massive smile on Tipsy's face seeing his driveway packed full of St's. :thumbs
Have fun everyone :thumb
-
Great work Harieg, however I think you've made a slight booboo, in the written instructions you say to turn left from Main Street (south of the river) onto Linton Street, then left onto Wellington road. If you go this way then you will miss the Mobil servo completely and me and others will be there waiting for you all day. I would suggest that you instead turn left onto Vulture Street (only one street further on), which takes you right past the front of the servo.
Sorry to nit-pick.
Cheers

i havn't made a mistake
you try Google maps to plot a route
say Caltex Carseldine via old northern road to the Story bridge
"G" maps WILL change your chosen correct route from Carseldine to Storey Bridge VIA GYMPIE ROAD AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGG
and I had checked the way points 4 or 5 times
AND STILL Google maps thwarted me
-
OK, no worries, Google Maps can be a pig to use...always thinks it knows best!. As long as you guys turn up a the Mobil servo I suppose I really don't care how you get there! See you Saturday morning.

Qld rego and plate..doesn't do anything for me really :p
I would like to see a gold one in person though. The anniversary special colour is great even in the photos. In fact I have a magazine article with a gold one photographed. If anyone wants a scan of it let me know.

A game attempt to deny the understandable desire to move here from Canberra.

I come off a dairy farm in Victoria where we had to go out in all sorts of weather during winter. Canberra is mild by comparison, and all those coastal dwelling Queenslandeers don't know much about cold..I have camped out at Esk when it was -15c overnight.

Yep cold is what it is even when riding in NZ in Nelson (S.I.) in the middle of winter and if you do not tense up against it you do not feel it so much ...unless you got baaaaad knees... about to take 3rd painkiller for the day and they are meant to be 1 every 12 hrs
All is good for tomorrow peeps tables already set up.... Tis lookin sweeet

Saaz, I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate. The lowest recorded temperature for Esk was -0.2 degrees C on 31st May 2006, and the lowest recorded temperature for anywhere in Queensland was recorded at Stanthorpe on the 4th of July 1895, when it was -11 degrees C.

The recorded temperature must not have been taken at where I was camping (camping ground in Esk, in the shadow of the mountain which made it worse). Belstaff jackets were frozen solid, bikes would not start using starter motors as too cold. The lowest temp mentioned is for Gatton, not Esk, but I don't know what difference there might be. What made it worse that the weather was nice and warm in brisbane and mapleton just before that.
Anyway, I think it was probably -20c now that my memory has been refreshed...perhaps -25c ..perhaps..
-
Well here's a first pass ride report.
After what felt like 9,000 sets of traffic lights we arrived at Tipsy's house to be greeted by the man himself, his brother and two sons...and the most fantastic feast I have seen a many a long year. It would be a downright insult to call it a BBQ, Roast Pork, Roast Lamb, veggies, dressings and heaven knows what else. Others took pics of the repast, not me, I was too busy stuffing my face!!!
Tipsy, you should become a chef!!
Anyway, Harieg seems to be beating himself up because of the sheer number of traffic lights we had to get through to get from the middle of Brissy to Victoria Point. Mate, don't, they are a factor of urban life in cities that we simply have to deal with...we all got some valuable practice in slow-speed driving!.
Here's a few pics, and I know Diesel took others.

When we left we all headed for the Pacific Highway and once there split up to head home by our own routes. A great afternoon was had by all, it was hot and sunny with not a cloud in the sky, and everyone (I think) enjoyed themselves very much. My personal thanks to Tipsy and his family for making us welcome and putting on such a terrific spread, mate you certainly have a calling there!.

-4c is just normal here, just had a few -2c days all the last week. Seems like we are getting a record of more than 8 days below zero in a row. -6c is not chilly, just quite normal...now below that seems a bit cold even to me....
-
ah Saaz
you are purposely missing the point here
YOU were talking about Esk or Gatton,
not Canberra
the last time those temps were recorded here in Qld, your relatives were wearing animal skins for cloths and modesty
NOW CAN WE PLEASE get back to the post
start your own thread OK
come on Brock

A point of order has been called by harieg, and upon investigation, I find the point proven. Back on track, or the stick will be wielded and the sin bin could get crowded.
:well :well
-
following the BAD comments about the NSW rego on GoldieST,
for the Tripsy to Tipsy, I would like to offer the following STORY
last week i rolled up to the QMT to transfer the rego
ALL paper work completed satisfactorily, it wont be long now, and she will be sporting a Qld. plate ahhh
WRONG
the bike is registered in NSW till October, was rego'ed for 12 months
BUT, whats this, it is on the NSW reparable write off list ?????
(( for those of you with a bit of spare time)) {{ like an hour or 2 or 3,
go to their WWW and read the HORROR story,}}
AND the rego cant go through in Qld., UNLESS nsw OK's it.
come back next week I am told, while Qld. contacts NSW !!!
Mon. 21st. get a phone call, bring the bike in for an inspection !
NO it has had an inspection already
NO that one doesn't count, we need to see it !
so today presented myself to the counter member
checked the vin, checked the single seat label, checked for oil leaks, reassured himself no pillion pegs, cant remove the cowl in a hurry
OK HarieG
lets go back inside
25 minutes later and $363:80 . 12 months single seat rego COMPLETED
plate IS on the bike, label due in 5 to 10 days
(http://i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s404/harieg/a%20QLD%20rego%20plate/IMAG0175.jpg)
-
Hi Harieg, Love the number plate combination IF 271 times.
-
Great story Harie, thanks for sharing. Quite a tale.
NOW ... what about the Qld registered OzSTOC SHIRT that didn't make it to Typsy's eh.... :well. :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
What a hassle to get put into your name.
Don't get the problem if it was all ready registered in NSW. Must have been approved to be registered
Mine come from Victoria. previous owner gave me signed transfer papers.
I took to local SA Rego Office with the completed SA paperwork who then made the appoinment for inspection. A Check of VIN numbers and the approval number on the VIN plate. Take that paperwork back to rego office, pay all the fees, collect plate and label (printed). Fill in paper work for return of plate to Vic and refund the balance of Vic rego to me. Total proces from picking bike up in Vic and into SA rego was about 10days and no phone calls interstate as details on Vic rego papers matched the bike details.
-
Yeah ditto Alan. I picked up my previous bike from "Blues" territory and was just a matter of getting a Qld roadworthy, even though it was currently registered in NSW, and off to the Qld Transport Dept. No worries at all. A few years back mind you. Had the STeed for almost 5 years now. The repairable write-off thing is the only snag I can see there Harie.
-
:hijacked :crackup
I know this is off topic but I have to say a big thanks to Harieg for organizing the RTE and to Tipsy for the feast, your both legends :-++ :-++

I think some of us can put up with whatever the weather is, as a FarRide to Lightning Ridge is on this weekend. So bask in that weather while we are doing the riding. :)

I have put a link below to the pics I took - but this one has to get special mention.....

Not often you have 700 horsepower worth of STs parked on your front lawn eh Tipsy?
Anyways, I'd like to thank HarieG for being our great and trusty ride leader - we all arrived in plenty of time, and very safely thanks mate - Cheers!
I'd like to also thenk all the OzSTOC punters who came out for this ride as you all made this a great day with your company.
The biggest thanks goes, of course, to OzSTOC's newest and greatest chef - Tipsy! Thanks mate for letting us invade you.
Your hospitality was absolutely first class, and your culinary talents were second to none! It was a pleasure to meet and 'hang' with your fam too. You have a great mob there mate. Now just hurry up and get those bloody 'bumblebees' seen to so you can come out again won'tchya!
Thanks again and enjoy these pics......

Ok, as a non-local, what is that last picture of? It looks fantastic, so have to go there sometime. Is it on the way back from Nindingully??? :think1
I cooked a spit roast shoulder of pork on the weekend in honour of the 'meet'. Good to see lots of veggies on the menu :thumbs

They are the beautiful 'Glasshouse Mountains' ol mate - 8 mins out my driveway. Iconic Sunshine Coast Hinterland geography. I stopped at this elevated spot for a quick snap on the way back from Tipsy's.
I keep telling you - come and see me sometime - I've got some of the best riding roads around right near me - just ask Shaun and Thomas - the pooch! :thumbs
Cheers. Thanks too @Shiney.

I can verify that. I love that area of the world. I used to live at Caloundra and Alexandra Headland and just adored heading west into the hills. The temp drops a few degrees and you can't beat the roads and scenery.
Looks like a great time was had by all. Well done Tipsy. :)
