Title: Long fingers
Post by: Biggles on July 22, 2020, 01:04:08 PM
If you're going to get serious about running wires through your ST you need help.
Getting wires routed around the head stem or down under the tank will do your own head in.  Usually the wires aren't stiff enough to poke through and one solution is to poke through a stiffer wire with the required wire taped to it, then pulling both through to success.
The device depicted below can grab a wire or any other small object (e.g. a dropped screw down between the engine and the cowl DAMHIK  :'( ) and retrieve it.  The "T" at the top works like an injection, except it pulls rather than pushes.  The spring holds your object, except if it's reluctant to cooperate you need to add a bit of pressure to the T.

Don't ask me where I bought it because I've had it as long as I can remember.  I wouldn't even know what to describe it as for a web search.
It's about 600mm long.

I have a couple of those gadgets...One I've had probably since the 80's and the other is a more modern one.

You can buy a similar sort of thing from Supercheap Auto & Bunnings:

My father had one like Biggles when I was very young, don't know what happened to it.

It's not apparent from the photos of the SCA and Bunnings ones, but for our purposes, they must be flexible.

I reckon I need to check them out. That would remove one of the things I hate about working on motorised things.

If you read the blurb on both they actually say it's flexible, Bill...  :whistle

Right, and I suppose you're one of those people who read the manual too!   :p
