Installed the NEP throttle lock today, install is very simple, is just a matter of putting in place and doing it up, took about 2 minutes to do it, and it works very well, tried it out and adjusting the tension, and using it is all how i like it, SIMPLE!
i bought mine from Aussie Biker:
http://www.aussiebiker.com.au/catalog.php?category=NEP%20Cruise%20Controls (http://www.aussiebiker.com.au/catalog.php?category=NEP%20Cruise%20Controls)
i am giving mine a thumbs up :thumb

Guys, whilst I admit to being mechanically ham-fisted, this new NEP Throttle Lock, which arrived today, has me completely baffled. :cuss :cuss
I don't seem to be able to get the thing to go together. The lock part doesn't seem to fit the clamp part. :well :well :well
Here is a picture of the offending article;

This is the way it arrived, in two separate parts but no matter what permutations I use to try to get the thing to go together it simply will not lock down. I am presuming that the orientation as it is in the picture is how it should be, but the 'instructions' are woeful so I have no picture to follow. The little bit which sticks up on the upper part (not the end piece, but the bit a little farther in on the curve) simply won't allow the lever to rotate into the 'on' position, so I'm stumped. Anyone got any good ideas?????

i have one mate, pm me your phone number and i will walk you through it, i looked at it the same way for 15 mins
-
Hey Whizz. If you can't get it to work, I'll buy it off of you. Lol.
Cheers mate. See you on the 23rd.
Skip.

The orientation in your pic is correct, the movement is only slight. Pushing the lever down will close the jaws slightlly.
When fitting to your bike, you will probably need to file the sticky out tab to allow it to fit snugly between the throttle cables. Place the clamp aound the throttle bar (may take a little wiggling to seat it properly). Put the toggle end on the clip first, then seat the end with the grub screw. Thats it. Use the enclosed allan key to screw in the grub screw so that the friction of the lock is sufficient to stop the throttle rolling back with out assistance, or for the feel you want.

Is the NEP what you run Brock or do you have the electric Rolls Royce version. The NEP appears to be the best of the throttle locks for simplicity and effectiveness. ????
-
The NEP is what I have, simple and reasonably effective.
See pics for fitting

By removing the squeeze pins, the locating plate can be turned over to allow the the mechanism to be swithched around 180 degrees, that may be an advantage if not using the police switching cluster

I had a universal Vista but it was pretty useless. Too much flex from the mounting point and the cam on the mechanism wasn't large enough to lock it on with any great effectiveness. Tried to tell Whizz but he wouldn't believe me. The NEP looks simple but I can see that it might get in the way of the starter button on the 1300. It appears that the thumb piece would sit adjacent to the starter button. I might wait to see how Whizz gets on with his. Thanks for posting Brock.
Cheers.

It does get in the way a bit, but only the start n stop buttons, nothing important :grin :grin
-
Only starting a problem on the 1300 Brock. It has a key to shut it down. You don't have to pull out the old "Engine Stop" button on the 1300. Except on Diesels particular model. Lol.

There are two different versions of the Vista Throttle lock,
This one is useless as I tried that,

the other, like the one I have is similar to the NEP you have shown in the pic. The next link is the one I have and after six years and with a fair bit of use needs replacing but it still works. The lever does get in the way of the starter switch and was a pain at first but I got used to it and now don't notice it.

There is another one there but at around $US200 is a little pricy for me.

Gentlemen, I see where and how I was misunderstanding the way the thing fits. Thanks Brock your pics make it clear and I now have it on and seems to function...I'll try it out tomorrow and report back.
I am grateful for the assistance from one and all.. :-++ :-++ :-++

Yep. Had the first one Allan. Definitely a failure.
-
On my ST1300 I had to remove the squeeze pins and turn the locating plate over (as Brock says) otherwise the locking lever hit the fuel tank on full right lock and got in the way of the starter button. :well It now sits with the lever neally vertical and is really easy to use with your thumb :thumbsup
:grin :blk13 :grin

I wholeheartedly agree with Skip that the Vista is a dismal failure, far too much flex in the support arm, and if you can get it to lock it doesn't hold and the throttle closes on its own.
Useless.
Sorry Skip I really should have listened!

Hi guys,
Just an alternate idea I have been using on my GS for years now. Silicon Caterpillar O'Ring. You set it in the groove between the grip and bar end-weight, then roll it out one turn. Provides a nice easy grip on the throttle but is still easy to twist. I use it to shake my hand out on a ride and to idle the bike up when warming up. It's easy to slip on and off, even with heavy gloves. Obviously the grip distance has to be set, 3mm max works very well.
Here is a pic on the ST, 'deactivated'-

And 'activated' :)

The O'ring is part no. 8M-4991 and is about $4.50 at Hastings Deering. It should be the yellow silicon O'ring as it's quite slippery. A rubber one would provide too much friction.

Just a quick note, my NEP. Throttle lock works very well, simple to use, very glad I bought it!
-
I have been using one of these for ages, only thing I have found is I needed to trim some of the rubber from the end of my grip as the extra thickness caused my throttle to stick. After I trimmed it the throttle drops back to idle with no assistance.
-
Agree with basadia. I've just fitted an NEP, ( thanks Mal ) and works a treat although some mods were necessary. As basadia did, I cut the 'flange' off of the inner side of the grip. As Mitch mentioned, it hits the tank on a righthand lock, so I pulled it apart and assembled it so the lever is up now and not down. The lever is in a similar position to Brocks photos above, although mine is a 1300, so, mine is in it's 'off' positioning in a similar position to Brocks 'On" position and visa versa.
-
i just bought one too, but i seems very tight ( the throttle does move ) :think1
-
Gaz I had the same problem, so I minimised the moment by adding a cable tie at the bottom of the throttle lock, and around the throttle cables (see in photo).
This did help, but not perfect.

Have you back the allen/hex key right off, to allow max. opening, prior to engagement.
