Has anyone had issues with throttle locks not working with heated grips fitted?
Recently, I fitted a set of Oxford heated grips. The throttle lock that was on my STead was a Vista Universal.
I removed this because the bar on the lock was too flexible.
Due to the wider grips I took this off and purchased a NEP lock, part number CC3. To suit Honda twin cable.
The end of the grip, with the cables, catches on the lock giving me only half throttle and interferes with the starter button.
Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? What did you do?

Great news.
I got an answer from the American site.
The answer is/ could be....

I'll let you know what I think once I get one and use it.

I got to feel your grip very warm indeed

Looks like it would work well, and cheap as chips!!
I have Honda OEM Heated Grips and have a Kaoko Throttle lock installed. Both work well!!

Thanks for that Couch.
What would you know the company is in Briggs St Welshpool in bloody Western Australia!! :runyay
They look a bit more robust too.
Going for a look tomorrow. Only thing now, is that I have to make my heated grips from blowing fuses.
I've been in contact with the national Dist in NSW, so time will tell. The Oxfords only lasted two weeks. :well :spank

Mal your not supposed to be using them in WA it's too warm ATM

Mal,
If the fuse is blowing instantly, then the power feed is probably squashed to frame some where.
-
The power feed runs from the control box under the seat to the aux fuse box in the tail.
It's all of 500mm long with no way of it getting trapped anywhere.
Me thinks the control box has "left the building"

An update to the heated grips.
Oxford in GB, aren't interested. Not in pommy land.
National dist, aren't interested. Weren't purchased in Oz.
No word from USA.
Moral of the story. Be careful when buying stuff from overseas.
Have since found out that Oxford have had lots of problems with their electronics, faulty batches. Nice to know but it doesn't help me.
It seems to be that a diode has stopped doing it's job in the controller.

I think that Oxford chnaged the type of controller a while ago due to these problems. I have know some being replaced with the new version, and it was more reliable.

Found this on eBay, $15.00 postage free :

The store in America was great. Sent over a new controller for the handlebars and the one under the seat as well.
Replaced both units on Friday afternoon, in time for the RTE. Tested and it worked beautifully.
Went for a ride on Saturday, no heat.
Same problem. Put a fuse into the fuse holder and it blows.
Some people get good a run with Oxford products. I didn't. Don't buy them.
Pay the extra and get something else.

Mal I have had 2 Oxford sets, 1 for my blackbird and now for my st 13. Haven't had any trouble with either sets, you must of got a bad one.did you try plugging in just your controller no grips, to see if it's the controller or faulty grips? :blk13

There is a controller on the bars and one under the set, connected to the battery.
With the bar controller and the grips unplugged, the seat unit blows the fuse. Put a 30amp in, it blows.
Before you say it, no there was no pinches in the power cables. They are only 200mm long, under the seat.
There is a lot of reviews on the web. Lots of people have had no issues at all. Others have had no end of problems.
I've replaced the whole thing twice. First one lasted 3 weeks, the second 10 minutes.
Now looking at my options of different units.

These are OEM Honda parts and as such are a quality product.
I purchased my grips, and the quartet harness from Discount Honda Parts in the US...........and I personally wouldn't be too concerned with warranty. Just my 10 cents worth!!

Great idea if they're interested!.............I paid $176.00 for the grips and about $17.50 for the harness + freight.
The grips are real easy to fit, but the quartet harness......well!!.............it's also easy to fit, once you've taken all the tupperware off the left hand side of the bike that is. Just remember how it comes off, so it all goes back the same way!!
The heat controller takes a little more work.........it fits in directly under the left fairing pocket, and they supply a template so as to know where to fit it.............. not difficult, but just a little bit fiddley! :)
However..........it's worth the effort!! :thumbs
