:dred11 Well after 2000 odd clicks on the ST1300 I must admit after 36 years on BMW's I am pleasantly surprised, it has turned out to be more than I expected, except for two glaring omissions, heated grips and cruise control but they are on the shopping list. I am very happy with the handling now that I am getting used to the faster than my BMW steering and have (accidentally) scraped a few times, the ST hides it weight well, fuel consumption is 10% higher than the BMW but again the weight plus the higher screen but I am not complaining as the 29 litre tanks still gives me a 100km greater range, I love the adjustable screen, listening to music at a comfortable volume at motorway speeds is great, in fact I am contemplating an open face helmet. Having two "sports tourers" of the same vintage reveals the difference in thought between the German and Japanese minds, the Honda is a much more relaxed bike to ride and I find myself riding in a more relaxed manner, not necessarily slower but more laid back, the BMW however is more "sports" oriented with the design focussing more on "riding" with a more aggressive riding position, better brakes and handling. Now the big question, which do I prefer......... I love both the ST1300 and my K1200RS but the BMW is the one which will be going as the riding position is murder on my 72 year back and knees, but until it is sold it is still my weapon of choice down a winding road

A flip face helmet is a great option.
Having come off a couple of times, and Shonee having had an off, and all 3 times we finished up with scratches on the chin bar, and Shonee finished up with a deep gouge diagonally across the visor. Subsequently both of us advise riding with a full face, or flip face with at least the jaw guard down.

A flip face helmet is a great option.
I second that...and if you get one that is dual-homologated for use in the up position as well as in the closed position then you can have the best of both worlds... :runyay

Great to meet you today out at Kenilworth Brian. I'm sure you'll customize yours to your liking and get plenty of tips from the long term owners on this site. But as you've already discovered, it's a damn mighty fine ride just the way it is. The next RTE (ride to eat) :eat (read 'lunch' ) is at Pitstop Cafe on Mt Mee, Sunday 1st May.
