Title: Helmet Skirts - anyone use one?
Post by: Diesel on May 20, 2012, 04:47:47 PM
Do they do what they claim about wind noise reduction?

Are you happy with yours? What brand?

Here's one....

Well, a lot of helmet noise is generated around the neck area, so it you close it off it should reduce some of the noise. looks like this thing also keeps out snow, thats gotta be good.... :crackup

Made one.  Suppose it did reduce the noice but made it to help with the rain, and it really worked. Now that I know you can buy em, maybe have a look around for one that canbe used with a Flip up??

Using earplugs is a far easier way to reduce noise, and with the right ones you can hear all your comms quite easily.

I've found the most noise generated by the helmet is from the airflow over the protrusions that form the flip mechanism. If I put my hand up and redirect the airflow it's much quieter. I don't need a helmet skirt, my beard stops air coming up from underneath.

Yeah - most of the reports say that they are a waste of money, and that they don't work - but I thought I'd hear what you likely lot have to say as well because punters (like Terry) have generally had experience with everything and know what works, what is good, and what is crap.

Here is one that seemed to show promise - but a lot of ginning around to set it up...

Motorcycle helmet skirt MASK 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR0HlrSNMog#)

Thanks for your input - for now - I guess I'll just stick with my earplugs until I get a better quality helmet. As saaz rightly points out - you can still hear coms and mp3 through the plugs - but no wind noise.

Thanks to all contributors.

Cheers, Diesel

Kinda think that skirt deal could be good. The one I made was stuck on with velcro and worked kinda good. Got me a second hand Sheuberth Flip helmet as I had years ago and their is simply nothing better in regards to how qiet the things are. So if you get the chance try a Shuebeth on the head if quiets what you are after. And use Earplugs :thumb

Mate, the "pixies" read the local reviews, so looks like you're stuck with four windjammers.  Maybe you could stitch them together into a sail and make a boat to fit them.  I think that would make a great name for a sailing boat!
