Title: StinkyPete's R1200RT is up for sale - Now Sold
Post by: StinkyPete on May 18, 2024, 11:37:42 AM
For Sale
I'm selling my much loved and very well travelled BMW R1200RT, as an injury is making it rather challenging for me to ride.   However, I plan on getting something quite a bit lighter for short trips.   I will attend RTE's both in SA and elsewhere, but will be in the ute or with the caravan.   If you want a very capable and reliable "long haul" tourer with all the fruit, this may be for you.  This bike is what the ST1300 could have been.   I'm giving first "Dibs" to OzSTOC members.

BMW R1200RT   2016    $15,000
86,000km
Published wet weight is 274kg
BMW 49lt Top Box with 12 volt outlet
Full and “on-time” Dealer Service History from new.
She was serviced at 80,000km, and is due for a service now simply because of the time since the last.
Russell Daylong Touring Seat
Puig Touring Screen
Illium Works Risers
Illium Pillion Footboards
BMW Nav5 Integrated GPS
Denali 2.0 D4 LED Spot Lights, on Clearwater mounts
Front Tip Over Bars
Pyramid Plastics Front Fenda Extenda
Quadlock phone mount

I'm sorry to hear it has come to this.  I guess it's a decision we'll all have to make one day.  I hope it goes to a good home and to catch up to you at future RTEs.  I think you were the first person I met at the Normanville RTE all those years ago.

Sorry to hear you're selling your baby, Pete...  :'(

I'm sure you have many many great memories of all your trips together.
Best of luck for the future and here's hoping your injury doesn't restrict you too much and you're able to continue riding for many years to come!  :thumbs

Best of luck with the sale
I know it is tough to make the decision
The Doctor made the decision for me with the ST1300
But I am loving being back on 2 wheels again

Good luck with the sale.

... I plan on getting something quite a bit lighter for short trips.   I will attend RTE's both in SA and elsewhere, but will be in the ute or with the caravan.

It'll be good to catch-up, whether that be on two or four wheels, the calibre of the company is not dependent on mode of travel.

...  I guess it's a decision we'll all have to make one day.

Yep, that day is getting closer for all of us.  After my "off" March 2023, thoughts of giving up riding passed in and out of my mind a number of times.  Despite a long, slow recovery and some on-going lower back discomfort when riding (even after a remedial procedure), for now "out" has won.

...  The Doctor made the decision for me with the ST1300.

I had a post-op visit to the surgeon last week.  We discussed progress, what I can do.  Pushy (eBike) and motorcycle riding were encouraged, he said something along the lines of, get back to normal activities, motorcycle riding included, things you like are important for your mental and emotional state, a good state of mind is important for your physical recovery.  I like this guy.

He did add, don't fall off though, this is how your problem started.

Sorry to hear this Pete, it must have been a very hard decision to make, hoping your injury heals and you are able to ride again.
Cheers
Jd.

Thanks.   I'm content with my decision, having lived the motorcycling dream for quite a while.  Two laps of Oz, and so many other long trips for a total of over 300,000km touring Australia by motorcycle has given me lots of adventures and memories.   Life is a series of seasons, and we gently move from one to another.

I do hope I can find a good home for "GhoST"   (Quiet, sneaks up, and because of her looks, scares the shit out of some motorists when she's spotted in their rear vision mirror)

Oh my goodness!  Yet another of my contemporaries (or even younger!) selling their bikes.  Soon it will be just Shiney and me riding our trusty STs into the sunset!   :crackup

All the best with the sale.  As Williamson wrote, it's a buyer's market at present with these big bikes.  But it's something special, and there may well be someone looking for a fully farkled tourer like yours.

I can most definitely attest to that - many a time when riding with Pete I did the double take and check my speed - or riding behind Pete and having to put up with worried motorists in front dropping their speed (which made it easier to pass I suppose).

Having ridden Pete's bike and seen the care and attention he has put into maintaining it, I know the person who purchases it will have no regrets, other than not getting their hands on it earlier.

I'm quietly confident we'll see Pete back on two wheels in the future ("I plan on getting something quite a bit lighter for short trips"), provided his back continues to improve. In my case the drop from 330kg to 196kg has been noticeable, although not quite as noticeable as the drop in horse power from 115 to 39. Still good fun though.

I had an XS 1100 years ago that did that. Big, white, La Parissean touring fairing and head light on, not helped by a black Brando jacket and silver open-face helmet. Always got a clear run down the Mt Barker Rd on that one.

Sorry to hear this mate, I'm sure you'll find GhoST a good home.
Good luck with the recovery and hopefully you'll find something lighter that you'll still be able to enjoy on short trips :runyay

I guess your next "season" will be doing a bit of grey nomading around Australia. You'll get to experience the country in a whole new way :thumbsup

Sorry to hear your riding days are likely to be over, but hopefully we will get to see you at meets in the caravan/Motorhome brigade?

I am deep in thought and testing and consideration about my own riding future. The upcoming Border Run May be my last.

Cheers Peter, all the best and hope to catch up again soon. 🙏🙏🥂👍🏻

I don’t think you wil have any problems selling your well farkled bike.
I hope you might find a lighter alternative to replace Ghost
Looking forward to catching up on the RTE’s as usual. Best wishes  :beer

She's sold......      I'm a bit sad, as it's the end of an era of amazing motorcycle journeys and adventures.    :'(    However, I'm content with my decision, as my body would not let me do the long rides that I've loved so much.

I will be back on two wheels, but on something smaller and lighter that will let me scratch the motorcycle itch on short rides.   :think1
