Title: Help Required - is anyone in Sydney able to have a cursory look at an ST1300
Post by: maninblack_30 on April 21, 2025, 11:02:45 AM
As above, I've spotted a bike for sale in Sydney (I'm in Wodonga) and wondered if anyone would be interested in having a quick look at it for me to let me know if it's junk, been crashed, FI light disabled etc. it's at a dealer and the price is good which I guess is what scares me! if it seems okay, then I'd book a train up and have a proper look :-)
Please shoot me a message if you think you could help.

Thanks,

Fraser

This one?  https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/details/2013-honda-st1300-abs-my10/OAG-AD-24289395/ (https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/details/2013-honda-st1300-abs-my10/OAG-AD-24289395/)

Can't help here, but ....

Have you done a PPSR check?  Will only show if it's been on a WOVR though, a minor crash, no.  It looks like you'll need to contact the dealer to get VIN / engine or rego numbers.  Not listing them in the ad seems a little odd.

How can one tell if the FI light has been / is disabled?

Team Moto Campbelltown is a big franchise, but it does look to good to be true.

As suspected, 2003 not 2013.

Even at 2003 model, 5K is pretty cheap..

Yeah, still worth considering, may be a little wriggle room.

Looks a bit neglected but might clean up okay... :/

First indication for me that it was an earlier model than indicated were the black wheels and the lack of the black "fill ins" under the side covers.

Looks like the top box may have been "down the road" at some point too.

Bit of a worry that the dealer told 2 "porkies" saying it was a 2013 model AND it was a MY10...neither being correct. :fp

If it is a 2003, it won't have ABS either, so make that 3 porkies.

Thanks everyone for your input, you were all correct, it's a 2003 non-abs!
I sent them a message (sounding like I knew all about ST's) and they confirmed what you had all said!!
He said he  will fix the ad.

Oh well.....on I move.....

Now that you've got more info it's probably still worth a haggle.   Perhaps make a bold offer, it worked for in 2020 on a Honda.  Offered a dealer (in an email) about $2K less on a sweet little Civic (90,000km / $6000), I was surprised (and happy) when the dealer accepted.

Listing indicates changes to ad made today, still listed as 2013 though.

I contacted them to tell them their ad was clearly wrong...
It will be interesting to see if I get any kind of response.  :popcorn

Hey there ruSTynutz, what year did the "Fill-ins" get added?

I'm sure someone will correct me If I'm wrong.

No response from the Dealer but I did get an email from BikeSales asking me if I'd had a response so I filled them in on the issue.

Follow this link: OzSTOC »Honda ST1300 Section »Honda ST1300 General Questions »ST1300 Changes From 2008

I'm not clever enough to make it a clickable link
