So far it's back home but which museum were you on about?

I believe that there are a couple in or around Peterborough.

We have other club (No Ozstoc) members up there over the weekend, so hopefully should get to the Motorcycle one on Sat.

Are they still open?

The motorcycle museum is still open and costs $5 for entry.

http://www.pbmcm.com/ (http://www.pbmcm.com/)

and the only other museum in town is Steamtown and costs about $20-25 to get in.

We changed our plans slightly.

Due to wet weather we haven't been over to Pirie for our regular fortnightly shopping run so we are going back home via Clare and calling into Woolworths. For the shopping we'll be bringing the trailer as well. Map link shows our route to and from. I normally by-pass Burra via the heavy vehicle route unless we really need to stop off in town (food, loo break etc)

First SA RTE in attendance were

Mel and Pete, (Pete)
Ray (Straysa)
Phil (Philster)
Heather and myself ((Alan) Wildfireangel and Alans1100)

On Thursday just gone with all the rain and more again on Friday there was a fear that Saturday would be the same, however the forcast predicted overcast and all but no rain and the day was as predicted which is unusual for the weather guys.

We awoke to a cold, frosty and unusual foggy morning but by 9am the skies had cleared around Peterborough so we'd have at some sun for a little while. I hooked up the trailer, Heather dried off the bike so I could put on our goat skin seat cover on. When ready to go at 10:10am I fired up the bike (even used the choke) and let it warm up a minute or two then went to fill up and then on our way leaving Peterborough about 10:30am.

The ride down to Saddleworth was ok except for the chilly wind blowing across the road from the right and made worse by the north bound B-doubles and wind forces they generate. I would say it's one the coldest trips I've done on the bike but considering an overnight of 3 degrees for us it was ok. Because of the cold I kept the speed around the 90/100kmh mark with the throttle lock on and let the speed vary as it does.

About 11:15 saw us turning at the northern entry of the Burra heavy vehicle by-pass which I usually use unless I need to stop off for a drink etc. A few k's out of Saddleworth I passed by a car driven by a blonde female 'P' plater. Not a drama, but a little too close to a blind RH bend and 15 or seconds later a car comes from the other way. One thing I noticed, most of the traffic was heading north and mainly 4x4 towing vans or similar. We arrived at the hotel at 11:55am, not bad considering the late start and slower 100kph I tries not to exceed.

Heather and I entered the hotel and were greeted warmly by the lady (turned out to be the manageress) behind the bar and I let her know that there'd be about another 4 or 5 turning and let us know there was a table for 6 set up and we could use that. About 12:15pm I saw a blue 1300 go past the window so we both headed outside again to meet Ray (Straysa), Mel and Peter (Pete). Heather took a couple photo's before we headed back inside out of the cold. Not sure what time Phil (Philster) arrived but it was 15/20 minutes later and we all headed outside to meet him. A few more photes taken before it was time to go back in side again.

From then until about 3:15 we'd talked about a bike related stuff (among other things) we'd done etc, had our meal which was all ok and when leaving were told we'd be welcome back anytime (only next time it won't be so cold.....lol).

We all had places to be and wanted to get there before it turned really cold again so we didn't hang around to long in the car park. Mel and Pete headed back towrds home. I didn't see which way Phil went while Ray followed us out of town towards Clare then he passed us on his way to Melrose. We stopped of at Woolworths in Clare and arrived home at about 6pm.

All up a great day had by all (even if a bit chilly) and a nice group but I think the general feeling was that next time we'll wait 'til it's a little warmer. Heather said she wouldn't mind going again so we might do so in about 6 to 8 weeks time.

Even with the fire going I can still feel the cold while I write this.

We didn't take many photos, outside ones are okay but the inside ones didn't turn out to well so I picked the best one. Maybe a few more will come to light from the others that attended.

This was the last photo I took with my camera and I've added the names etc. to the photo.

Great that it happened!  We may be able to say the ACT/NSW RTE is a touch chilly too, but who cares once the sun gets out :)  Our report will follow tomorrow.

Great report Alan, unfortuantly our photos weren't as good as yours, the hotel lounge was a very dark room which didn't help, but it was great to catch up other South Aussie ST riders, Phil, Mel & myself rode back to Adelaide together parting company at Anzac Highway, dry until then, leaving Phil we followed ahead along South Road and then the skys opened up, very dark, wet & peak hour traffic coming from Adelaide, it was a great day & must do it again some time, Pete

Meeting with the other SA members at Saddelworth on Saturday was a most enjoyable experience. I left Roxby Downs at 6.50am with the ambient temperature reading -1. This was the first time i have used the grip warmers on the highest setting (they are a very worthwhile investment). Though the air was chilly it was a "comfortable cold", the ST's provide great protection from  the air flow. Got to Pt. Augusta around 9.30 where it was a blistering 6 degrees, had a quick coffee, fuel and other things then headed off. Met a guy on at the servo riding a Harley who had travelled up from Kadina on route to Darwin. Turned out he works up at Olympic Dam also. Took the Horrocks pass road, that winds its way through the Flinders, with the GoPro camera capturing the ride. A great ride if you dont catch a caravan or other slow movers (which luckily I didnt). Out the other side and heading to Wilmington into FOG. Thick fog all the way to Melrose, which was no big deal, just had to watch the centre line on the road. When it became an unbroken line I figured it was either a bend or a rise so rode accordingly. Got to Saddelworth around 12.30ish and spotted the other bikes. I was greeted by the others and introductions all round. None of us had met before yet from the way the conversations flowed you would have thought we had been doing this for years. ST owners!...................we're a friendly bunch (probably because our bikes are great rides). The pub was very good and the manageress was very hospitable, we should definately do this again. Well done Allan for initiating this and hopefully we can get a few more owners out of the woodwork in future. Its an unusual sight to see SO MANY STs in the same place in SA.
When we left I headed off with Pete and Mel to Adelaide and parted company just before Anzac Highway and the rain (note to self change iridium visor to clear before it gets dark and wet - raindrops hitting the eyeballs is like acupuncture). Next morning left at around 8.00am for home. Decided to take the same route home rather than Main North road, I need to get some side wall wear on the rear tyre. Sighted Ray on his way back from Melrose around Gulnare. Quick stop off in Pt. Augusta for some Hungrys and then back on the straight road to Roxby. All up a 1250km round trip.
Well worth every kilometre, the "Big Girl" and myself needed to get away and it was made more enjoyable by the great company. Look forward to the next catch up.
Cheers
Phil

Nothing to be unhappy about as we were celebrating Chris's birthday.   I'm eating my first kangaroo parmy, 'cause there's not a lot of chickens running around at William Creek, but the Postie Bike Challenge riders were there in force.  :crazy
