Afternoon everyone.
This has been spoken about a lot before, and yes ive read some previous posts, but alas I'm a lazy bastard and cant be bothered spending the whole afternoon going over every post.
After the wall to wall ride home through Thredbo and other twisties, I have come to the conclusion that the 2014 Dunlop's on my bike are just not doin it for me. You know that feeling where you 'just don't trust em'.. Ive got that.. Hence ive come here to the brethren for sage advice.
Now the brands spoken about here with the most fondness are the Pirelli's and the Michelin's.. If I'm going to spend good coin, i want good bang for buck.
Now some context, I'm a bigger boy of about 115Kg's, that has to be factored in, and I mainly ride reasonably sedate, but love to give the bike a good squirt on the twisties occasionally.
I hate the Squirrelness of the Dunlops, and ive tried different pressures and rear damper adjustments, it feels too unpredictable to me. Twitchy.
So, Which Tyre is the best and why?! I think I was talking to someone at one of the RTE's and he swore by the Pirelli's after a loose gravel incident if I recall correctly?
Up to you guys and gals! Educate me!

There's been many questions on tyres, many responses, some helpful, some not so. Even some diametrically opposed to others. Which answer is correct or not? Probably both, as it depends so much on personal prespective, wants and needs.
Overall we're a small group on OzSTOC, particularly those that participate in the Forum, few will respond, even less will be close to your weight and have a similar riding style.
Having said that, my thoughts.
Weight: Since having the ST1300, been as low as 85kg, as high as 95kg. But to me that's not all that relevant as when touring, I've probably had an additional 30kg plus in luggage, and at times a pillion at around 60kg.
Riding style: Yeah, some spirited riding at times, have got a fright scraping the pegs, or a kidney punch from the pillion a coupla times (after a peg scrape). But approaching my mid-70's, those days are in there rear view mirrors.
Wear / cost: This was a concern, replacing tyres every year or so at around $550 was annoying, but now every two years seems to be the norm. These days I don't care, especially as it's all relative - a mate replaced his new tyres on his Hyabusha after a 2500km Alpine tour back in 2022. I think we're lucky.
Back in 2013, my ST13 came new with OEM Bridgestones, these didn't last 10,000km. Since then, Michelin PR3GT, Shinko (after a recommendation, cheap but never, ever again - no redeeming features), then PR3GT, PR4GT, PR5GT, only departure was a Dunlop Roadsmart (only tyre available at Bairnsdale at the time, less than 8000km).
Next tyres? Michelin don't do Pilot Road GT in sizes for the ST13 anymore, so based on from what I recall of previous posts, I think I'd be going for a Pirelli Angel GT.

I got Michelin Road 6's on my NT1100 and they seem a very solid tyre
When I had the ST1300 I never run the GT's and they were very good. I run the Michelin Pilot Road 2 3 4's I don't think I runs the 5's.

I have Michelin on the 1100, but havent looked at tyres for a while..
A good dealer should be able to recommend the right Michies for for the 1300..

Around 15,000km was the best I could get.

I'm sticking with the Michelin Road 6s, even though they're not GT spec. They hold on well enough for me (just rode through the night, half of which was in steady to heavy rain). I expect 25,000km from a pair and no change from $600 fitted.
