Title: SA RTE Suggestion for 2026
Post by: on September 28, 2025, 08:01:15 AM
I guess it's about time to get this rolling.  I've got a list of places I would like to check out but here's a few suggestions in no particular order other than the order that I wrote them down throughout the year.  I've also decided to think outside the box and put in a couple of Victorian venues that are closer to Adelaide than they are Melbourne.  I suppose I should add Silverton and Balranald from New South Wales as they might be due for another one.

Code:
Red - closed or unsuitable
Grey - postponed for whatever reason
Orange - went there outside of Ozstoc
Green - Ozstoc Ride To Eat
Brown - Hearsay
Yellow - Didn't stop or attend, but shall keep an eye on it

That's one hell of a list Bodo
But you don't have Sutton in the ACT but I guess it will be the National Rally

I've been compiling it since posting a similar thread last year.  As for Sutton, it's already locked in so didn't seem necessary to 'suggest'.

.... put in a couple of Victorian venues that are closer to Adelaide than they are Melbourne.  I suppose I should add Silverton and Balranald from New South Wales as they might be due for another one.

Travel plans for 2026 have already taking up a big chunk of our calendar, eg:
Very unlikely that I'll be able to attend many of the RTEs, particularly if they involve one or more overnights.  But hey, post dates and some more specifics, if the stars can be aligned, unlikely may turn out to be a likely.

This also seems to be trend with a few other VIC (and other state) members, ie. with BIG travel plans taking priority over smaller plans, and with a couple (more?) of VIC members also hanging up their riding boots, we're getting less and less to our RTEs, particularly when an overnight is involved.

That's a great list you have there Bodo. Can I suggest we try to limit ourselves to visiting locations/pubs we haven't visited in the last decade (I only mention this because the first pub listed is one we visited not that long ago - the Wheatsheaf, Allendale North). Whilst it's good to reward good pubs with return visits, we may well be missing out on visiting some gems.

True.  It was one I couldn't make.  I've removed that.

That is one hell of a list. There are some bakery's that could be considered as well. D and m's Angaston is well worth a visit probably during winter as they have a wood fire.

Balranald and Silverton are worthy RTEs. Over long weekends, both destinations are fantastic. Great rides.  :Like:

There's enough for 6 years worth of RTE's there.

I'm starting to select 11 of those for the 2026 calendar, noting January is set for the Charleston Hotel.

The Yorke Valley in Maitland is well worth a visit.

Today's announcement is that it has been sold and will change hands in mid february.  Coonalpyn has also been sold, with the current owner's last day being this saturday.  They then move to their next venture - a sea change at the Troubridge hotel in Edithburgh.  It's getting hard to keep up.

I will be eating at least one dinner at the Yorke Valley over the March long weekend, so I will let you know if the change of ownership stuffs it up.

I see that the Mundulla Hotel is up for sale.

Probably not surprised really, the licensee was looking for food to be the saviour & the accommodation was sold off separately.
