Its with sadness that the club wishes to advise of the passing of Kev Murphy from Victoria.
I've been advised Kev passed peacefully in a care facility.
Kev Murphy was the most 'Thanked" member for his posts on the Forum (mostly Jokes) at 10,993 with a total number of posts 0f 101,343.
Kev adored the group, its members, and his ST1100.
Rest easy old friend.
Please raise a glass tonight at the stragglers dinner at NR2026

A little bit of details regarding Kev's passing.
In a parallel thread - https://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15723.0 - there was some disussion re. Kev's forum absence and the VIC members' efforts to find out how he was, where he was. The best we could find out is that he was safe but no longer living in Portland VIC,
Last Saturday, Kev's mate (Matt) from Portland contacted OzSTOC to advise that Kev had passed away. Some of you may remember Matt, he was Kev's mate who drove him to and from the RTE at Harrow VIC back in November 2018. Matt was also the guy would drive Kev to and from medical appointments in Warnambool and Mount Gambier
Anyway, I talked with Matt over the weekend, he advised that Kev had not been well and had been in State care, and that he was found one morning in his room unresponsive, further medical tests revealed that Kev's cancer was far worse than originally diagnosed and that he didn't have much time left, and now we know the result.
The authorities (not sure they are) have been trying to contact a next of kin but as Kev had been estranged from his wife and children (we think they'e somewhere in Adelaide) for some time, this is proving difficult. If no family is found within 28 days, the State will arrange a funeral. As Matt seems to have been the closest to Kev, the authorities advised Matt that he'll be kept informed, and Matt has said that he'll keep me informed, and I'll keep OzSTOC informed.
If there is a funeral or memorial service for Kev, Matt said that it'll most likely be in Portland or Adelaide, and hopefully some of us will be in a position of being able to attend.
So, until we know more .....

Thanks for the update..
Hopefully, an OzSTOC presence can be had at his send off.

He lived and worked in Whyalla at some point so maybe worth searching there...
I remember him telling me yarns from when he worked at the steelworks.
He was previously in the military so they may have some records... :/

If there is any proof of his service available, then the RSL can organise a bugler to play the Last Post and Reveille at his service. Its an entitlement..

Rest in Peace Kev.

A very generous man with his time and resources locally in Portland, and surrounds where he would repair local's computers cheap.
He put me up when I was doing my big ride in 2015 and was great company, and a surprisingly good cook.
He'll be missed.
Rest in peace Mate.

Update:
Matt has advised that Kev's ex-wife has been located, probably his closest relative, and they were apparently on good terms, it's sounding like there will be a service for Kev in or near Adelaide.
More info will be provided if or as it comes available.

.... I wrote a letter (as requested), attached it to an email, return email advised that letter must be sent via Australia Post, sent letter via registered mail, no response - as yet.
Registered letter was addressed to the PO Box provided by the government department looking after Kev, it was returned today unopened. Sounds like Kev didn't get my message that his OzSTOC family were concerned about him, before he passed.

That's a shame... :-[
