Title: Crunch in gears.
Post by: Icor on March 30, 2016, 03:54:37 PM
Whenever I go to put bike in gear the gearbox crunches like there is no synchro. Happens while stop with going to first and second.
Gear changes are very smooth once you start of. I've bled clutch and it's not slipping or not releasing as I can start motor in gear with no lunging. Have checked for leaks in both master and slave cylinder.
My only thought is incorrect oil when I changed engine oil. I used Penrite 10/40
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Post by: Icor on March 30, 2016, 03:57:46 PM

Post by: Icor on March 30, 2016, 04:05:11 PM
When I'm sitting at lights and try to place into 1st gear slowly I get a rather loud crunching sound. Sounds like old days when u didn't have scynro gear boxes. If I do the change fast bike jumps.
I have no leaks from with master or slave cylinders. Clutch isn't slipping And I get no lunging if I start in gear with clutch in. New oil in motor   Penrite 10-40. New oil n clutch

Have considered changing engine oil to heavier grade

Any ideas appreciated.

I'm pleased to announce that our little Doggy Hurricane Joe now also has his pride of place on our Trusty STeed.
The purpose of the straps is to hold a back cushion for Jeannie and cover over Hurricanes cabin when needed. Title: Backfiring and smell of fuel from exhaust
Post by: Shiney on May 20, 2018, 04:58:49 PM
So I've been having a few problems with my St 1300 in particular I've been experiencing a lot of backfiring whenever changing gears and just in general use.
When I pull the clutch in to change gears it will backfire and also just when riding it will backfire from time to time, but mainly on acceleration when the clutch is pulled in.
There is also a very rich smell of fuel from the exhaust and my fuel usage has skyrocketed.

I have Jack the five way vacuum hose connection and it is clear and I've replaced the spark plugs.

You're my latest attempt to diagnose the issue when I block the air hose that runs from the rear of the air box down I get a smoother idle and no backfiring.

This is as far as I have gotten and I'm hoping that someone can make a suggestion as to what I can do to fix this.

 Cheers
 Shiney

Title: Backfiring and smell of fuel from exhaust
Post by: Shiney on May 20, 2018, 04:59:11 PM

 Cheers

The is a video I think all men and women should watch.

It will be confronting.

It will be uncomfortable.

Listen. Listen with an open mind. Please.

I recognise some of my own behaviour, and my own inaction (of which I'm not proud), in their comments.

I bought a four pack of Stockade Brew Co 'Old Money 2018' release today and opened one a little while ago. It's 12.5% ABV, or 3.3 standard drinks in a 330 ml Stubbie.

I'm liking it, very much. It tastes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla and smells fantastic.
Aged in Kentucky Bourbon Oak Barrels.

Title: St1300 Altenator pullout
Post by: perthcarpetcleaner on March 28, 2019, 09:02:10 PM
Just spent 5 hours pulling out a faulty altenator on a st1300pa...found that there was not a lot of detailed information on this in the manual and on the web.
The hardest thing was working out where it was located.
it is located under the throttle body deep in the centre on the top side of the motor. Was not something i could remove without removing throttle body and hoses including thermostat housing.

Title: Ryda Spyder
Post by: Gadget on May 14, 2019, 11:22:47 PM
As some of you may know, JOHNNYyted recently bought a new Can-Am F3S Daytona Spyda he has called BEEstY, while up here in QLD on Holidays.

He's asked me to give him a hand relocating BEEstY to NSW, while he rides STrangler, and I've agreed. What an exciting opportunity. 2 days of riding the style of bike I see in my future.

JOHNNYyted on BEEstY

Me on BEEstY
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190514/1a8f46be03f7969522341f42fff3c598.jpg)

Thanks to the generosity of Shiney, I now have a Jacket that fits properly, Kevlar pants, my old wet weather pants, and a neck gator to keep me warm.

I've set up a Spot to track our progress, and it goes live Friday, 17th May, sometime after 5 am.

https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=1de105cdaba44e342d&hoursPast=0&showAll=yes

Basic plan is (could vary due to weather and/or whim)
Brisbane
Beaudesert
Lions Road
Kyogle (maybe breakfast)
Casino (maybe visit Dad/ breakfast)
Tenterfield
Uralla (Wave at ST2UP and Pockey's place as we ride past)
Tamworth (overnight)
Muswellbrook
Golden Highway
Putty Road (including Grey Gum Cafe) [for some reason, JOHNNYyted is insistent on riding this on his new bike :grin]
etc to
JOHNNYyted's place.

Fly home Sunday.

We're in more discussions with the Peter the owner in Mareeba.

He's also willing to throw in 2 jackets and helmets with comms, so that makes it more attractive. The helmets are possibly too old to keep, but the comms might be perfect.

Just waiting on an OK from Beau as to the condition of the bike.

We're now so convinced we'll be getting a Spyder, we went out this morning and bought a new Helmet and Jacket for me. :runyay

The insurrection and Test Ride by Beau was :thumbs.

So Wednesday morning I'm flying to Cairns to be picked up on Thursday morning to go to Mareeba.

There we'll change the rego over and then I'll ride to Townsville.

Hopefully on Friday, I can catchup with John and Kate in Mackay, before riding on to Rocky, and then making my way home on Saturday.

This link should go live on Thursday morning.

I'm coming out of hibernation again from work and travel, only to have put the bike away for a few months while I have knee surgery - nothing major (partial replacement - don't I feel old!?!): the thought of not riding appears to be hurting more!

Title: Possible future National Rally or RTE destination.
Post by: Gadget on August 15, 2019, 09:19:06 AM
Just stopped at Ellis Beach Bar and Grill for breakfast. Great food and service.

Plenty of room. Loss of tables

It could good for an RTE with plenty of head stranding out front and Caravan park within walking distance.

Title: Hello to me
Post by: Deancantfish on September 09, 2019, 01:23:08 PM
After a long pause (15 years ) I bought a little yellow bike...a triumph tt600...it tried to kill me and I decided that seeing I had learned to ride on an 1100 I best find one.
I ended up with 2 ST11's.
Compared to my last bike, a J model kwaka 1100, the ST handles, brakes and does everything like a dream.
I know newer bikes will be better, but I'm old so I like old.
This is the first bike I've had with modern tyres...leave Pirelli phantoms for dead don't they.
Cheers Dean(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190909/0dcb0ac2a50051e9c87da0bb0346524d.jpg)

Title: I can't have an ST anymore, this is the new STeed I've bought.
Post by: Gadget on September 27, 2019, 07:46:41 AM
For many and varied reasons, some of us can't ride the beloved ST anymore, so here is a place we can showcase the next.

For Shonny and I, it is a 2015 Can-am Spyder, RT Special Edition.

Post by: Gadget on October 04, 2019, 12:42:04 PM
This long weekend, the clan are reuniting to celebrate 150 years in the Kyogle district of The Risk.

My spot for the weekend.

https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=207ed5d964fcfdaddc&hoursPast=0&showAll=yes

I rode down this morning to The Risk School to meet up with my Brother, Niece and Cousin, who were planning to ride from Voltz Rd (named after our Grandfather) up to the Qld Border on the Lions Rd and back. I followed them up and back.

Took the big bar ends off (as one was bent) and fitted small ones. Rigged it so when you turn the small wheel on the outside on the throttle side it turns the Allen screw tightening the throttle locking it on. Turning it the other way loosens it easily.  Seems to work fine.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191215/86c349274a2e564e61f49d86576a47c9.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191215/e2b1e8ec53a40e2b104493bab7a308f1.jpg)

I am Planning on Visiting LosAngeles early Sept 2020 from Perth Western Australia. Is there anyone in or around LA that might be interested in hiring an ST1100 or ST1300 for approx 10 days. Expecting to do around 1500miles.
Would be happy to offer my ST1300 in Perth Western Australia as a swap if there was any interest.

Title: New compressor and high volume pump
Post by: Gadget on September 26, 2020, 03:31:58 PM
Today I added to my 18V AEGtool collection, with this combination automatic compressor and high volume pump. It can also use the 12V socket in cars and on bikes.

Connect the high pressure fitting to the tyre, turn on, set the mode to compressor, turn the dial to set the auto mode to 22 PSI, press play, and it pumps until the tyre is 22 PSI.

Can be set to PSI, kPa, or Bar.

The high volume pump can be used to inflate air beds, balloons etc.

It has fittings for:
Balls
Beach balls
Air beds etc.

We have a very large inflatable unicorn for the Grand kids, so I expect it will be good for that s well.

I'll put it on Aragog for trips away.

$169 at Bunnings.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200926/c28a665bff196360f220ccf46356a436.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200926/3379db9f7b5ce4c414a2da5c3b953732.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200926/1ce9297d4fe8f4fbb3d15053200a1e43.jpg)

Title: Bathurst 1000 - 2020 event.
Post by: Gadget on October 18, 2020, 08:53:32 AM
Who else is watching today?

I set up the laptop with live timing, grabbed a coffee, and put the feet up.

While channel 10 were playing fluff, and puff pieces about the main event drivers, the live timing showed the Toyota Gazoo Racing Race 4 event and it finished with car 18 L. Gbbons winning.

10 went to an ad break, and then showed the Toyota 86s lining up on the grid to start that race, all the while displaying the "Live" logo.

While they were showing that race, the live timing showed Tin Tops race 3 starting.

The broadcast time was much shorter than the race time.

Post by: RichRen on March 29, 2021, 10:37:47 AM
Hello, Brainstrust!
I know the STs are known for their engine squeel, but I feel mine is increased significantly in the last week. I adjusted the balance shafts on the weekend, but this did not seem to make much difference. Is there anything else I should consider as cause?

Post by: Gadget on April 25, 2021, 11:39:56 PM
I've been watching this volcano via Live streams provide by RUV and MBL since the 2nd day it started erupting.

The host of this channel on YouTube is a motorcycle rider in Switzerland, who is moving to Reykjavik, Iceland in September.

He has aggregated all three cameras into one stream.

There was a 4th camera, however, it got over taken by a lava flow from behind.
