Kathmandu is great, BUT all their gear is made in China and Merino Country gear is made here in Australia and I think we should support our Australian Companys.

+1 young one.
I've Ordered a set of long johns. If we don't support Aussie manufacturers none of us will have jobs.

I couldn't agree more about supporting Australian manufacturers, and I do that whenever possible. I wasn't aware of "Merino" and if I had been, I would have purchased their products rather than Chinese made. Not that the Chinese products are not good, they are..........so much is being produced by the Chinese these days...........it's a bit of a worry really. Kathmando have this big sale on at the moment and there are many items available that are not manufactured in Australia, such as sleeping bags, hiking boots, etc. that are worth having a look at. I do all the shopping at home and never buy food products out of China or New Zealand, as many of the NZ products are actually out of China. Anyway I wore my thermal in to Hobart last night with temp at 3 degrees and it was just great. I'm going to buy more thermals now for my boys, so I'll have a squiz at "Merino"
O' incidently.............beautiful day here again today........sunny, clear skies, no wind 8)...............but, bloody cold air (4 degrees outside at 8.30am...............6.5 degrees at the moment)
Keep smilin fellas :)

Agreed Couch, it's simply impossible to buy a lot of gear that's made here anymore. Textiles and clothing have been particularly hard hit, and it's good finding companies like this that are still going. I've been in metal manufacturing since I started working and have seen a lot of very good products (and jobs) go due to the shift to Asia. And that's just 20 years :'(.

I spent my entire working life in the printing industry................colour printing to be specific, and so much of colour printed material available in Australia was, and still is, printed in Asia. China are the largest producer in the world of wind and solar power but don't use it themselves. They manufacture 80% of the worlds solar panels but install less than 5%. They build a new coal fired power station every week, and in one year turn out more coal powered electricity than Australias total output. China has 19% of the world's population (Aust is .33%) but consumes 53% of the worlds cement, 48% of the worlds Iron, & 47% of the worlds coal, they produce 11 times more steel than the US. In 2010 they built and sold 18 million vehicles!! They possess the worlds fastest supercomputer and in the past 15 years have moved from 14th place to 2nd place in published scientific research articles. They have the largest stockpile of foreigh currency in the world.
And to the detriment of every other country on the planet they are the largest carbon dioxide emitter in the world, and their output will rise 70% by 2020. Do I believe China to be a threat to Australia................ya darn tooten I do!! :cuss
:hijacked.............sorry about that, but just had to get it off my chest!! :)
